Alan Scott. He didn't have to deal with a bureaucracy and go running off
to other planets. And his premise made more sense. If I were running a
galactic patrol I don't think I'd make its equipment look like a piece
of obsolete earth technology.

BTW, anybody notice that the ring has become a universal
translator...just like a lens?

"Become"? Hal's ring was a universal translator from the very start.

There was always a clear thread of the Lensman running through the GLC,
eventually acknowledged overtly by the addition of two Lanterns named
Arisia and Eddore.

Yep - how do you think he understood what ... wait a moment, I've lost the
name somehow ... Abin Sur was telling him?

Cool. I missed that. Was one good and one bad?

The Buck Rogers TV series had a quick reference to guys named Nowlan and
Calkins.

I'm willing to grant that the creators of the Silver Age reboot might
have come up with the idea of a galactic police force on their own. It's
as much a riff on Ultraman as on Smith. But when they brought in the
Guardians it got too close.

No, they were both good; Arisia was a female, sort of golden-skinned
space elf girl, and Eddore was a shapeless blob-thing like an amoeba.
