After seeing the large amount of creative energy in the various
"creative" newsgroups, one can't help but be impressed by the wealth
of fan-fiction out there...and at the same time a bit overwelmed by
the sheer volume of stories.
So these "awards" i'm proposing have two goals:
1) To recognize creative talent in fan-fiction on the net, and
2) To give the new reader a good starting point by identifying the
best of the best.

The rules (if you want to call them that) are simple.
1) Fill out any or all of the form bellow and email it to
p...@inforamp.net with the above subject line or just UUFFAA.
2) Only one ballot per person. (i'm trusting you)
3) For this first installment, only stories posted before April 30th,
1995 will be eligible.
4) Cutoff date is June 25th, 1995.
4) I'll compile the votes and post the results by July 1st, 1995
(you'll just have to trust me, i've submitted no fan-fiction as of yet
and will not vote myself).

That's it....
I've gone ahead and decided the catagories by myself, but if you have
any ideas for changes please POST them for discussion in the above
groups, and if a concensus is reached, changes will be made
accordingly for next year.
Enjoy!

Um, unless the people over at alt.comics.fan-fiction have been using
Squiddy, the only story to even have this character appear this year has been
Constellation's "Squidquest: The Charade" arc. By me. Now, there's been lots
of posts referring to non-existant SS stories, but those aren't quite what
you're talking about.

There should also be "Best MSTing of a Bad TrekFic" for all the
rec.arts.tv.mst3k people. Extend that to bad QL and XFiles fanfic too.

Dave Van Domelen, doesn't think there really need to be quite so many
"erotic" TrekFic categories...at least he hopes not....

And, to continue the kibitzing ... whar's the mention of Superguy?
bit.listserv.superguy? You know, us old farts over thar in the next
county? Why ... I feel slighted! Dismissed! Ignored! That's it, we're
going on strike! Aarrrrrr!

Not to mention Omega, Crossroads, Ash, Eleck, or any other universe
on RACC. Why is LNH the only category. This seems more like a fan-fiction
awards than something for RACC (which prohibits fan-fic). Not only
that, but RACC already has its own awards. I would suggest just leaving
RACC off of the ballot.

Right! That's it, then ... everybody out! We're going to protest this
high-handed behavior of management! To the picket lines! Somebody, go get
the words to "We Shall Overcome!" Somebody contact the Labor Relations
Board! No more preferential treatment! No more discrimination! We DEMAND
longer vacations! Shorter hours! And a ten-cent discount on the candy
machines!

My intent for the first awards was to cover all the fiction out there
up to now (so that would have included a lot of Squiddy eligibles).
However, based on a couple of good points people have brought up i'm
thinking of removing all the RACC catagories for now.

We don't get MST3K up here in the Great White North, so i didn't even
realize is was being used as a creative outlet (as others have pointed
out). How about an award for "Trek writing that most resembles
Shatner's acting"? Or is that the same as "Best MSTing of a Bad
TrekFic"?

Dave Van Domelen should look at the traffic & FTP sites!! ASFS gets
more traffic than most of the others COMBINED! I was actually worried
i didn't include enough : )
Anyway, that point is that i tried to base the awards on the content
out there, though perhaps i failed with "Squiddy".
