And my revised version on the right:

Changes made:

1) Two chest pads removed

2) Shoulder pads raised to neck level

Those two changes make it more like the comic book Dredd. :) You can
see how the original version doesn't enhance the top of Dredd's body.
By shifting the shoulder pads up a few inches it squares the top half
of Dredd's body, makes him look more macho and broad, and that's more
in keeping with the look of 2000AD's Judge Dredd.

As for the two chest pads, well, they look awful. I've no idea why the
designer came up with that idea but it wasn't a good one. The Judge
Minty look proves you can have shoulder pads without visible support.
The two chest pad approach is, to put it bluntly, terrible, and really
spoils the overall look.

The recently released Karl Urban photo looks more round shouldered
than that drawing:

so it was imperative to raise the shoulder pads. The Urban uniform
shoulder design and shape is laughably wrong, I'm sorry to say.

One thing is changing the shape and size of the shoulder pads - okay,
fans like myself will geek and moan - but to make them sloping
downwards, to give Urban ZERO muscle definition in his shoulders, is
ridiculous. Where's his upper body muscle definition? He has NONE! I
thought Dredd had broad shoulders.

They can't even get the basics right.

How can they be so clueless?

Everyone can and does make mistakes- you should see the times I've not
bothered to check my typing or not seen a bit of bad grammar or
whatever, but how can you make such a mess of the uniform, the basic
look and shape? It seems impossible to ruin it but they have.

How can Rebellion - OWNERS OF JUDGE DREDD - and DNA Films - NOT KNOW
WHAT DREDD LOOKS LIKE?

Rebellion must have thousands of Dredd reference material to look at.
Didn't anyone from Rebellion say to DNA "er.. this uniform looks okay
as a prototype, but doesn't Dredd have broad shoulders that don't
slope? And shouldn't his shoulder pads come up to the start of his
neck?"

Did anyone mention this?

Or were they too busy going "whoo-hoo, we're making a Dredd film,
aren't we wonderful!"

(rolling my eyes)

This sums up the new Judge Dredd film. This one link sums it up.

My revised version next to the Urban image:

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/204/dredddrawingvsurban1.jpg/

REBELLION AND DNA FILMS HAVE COMPLETELY EMASCULATED JUDGE DREDD.

He has no upper body muscle definition. He looks wimpy. He's Judge
Dredd for Grud's sake - he is meant to look physically imposing. The
desire for a grim and gritty, realistic take on Judge Dredd is
meaningless if you emasculate the character - and from a visual
perspective that is what they have done.

They have 100 percent ruined the look of Judge Dredd and it is
unforgivable. No fan should accept this 'version' of Judge Dredd.
