Karen Davis, the wife of comedian Spike Davis, died at a Louisville Hospital
Friday morning. She was the victim of a double hit and run accident which took
place late Thursday night following a performance by her husband. A Cadillac
rear ended the car she was ridng in, causing it to crash into the rear of an 18
wheeler. Neither the Cadillac nor the truck remained at the scene. There is
speculation that the driver of the truck was unaware of the incident.

As more information is released, I will try to keep everyone updated.
Arrangements have not been made at this time. Anyone interested in Spike's
address may e-mail me for it, or phone me at my office on Monday.

In additon to Spike, she leaves behind their 7 year old son. In the many
years I knew her, I never saw Karen when she was not smiling. This was not a
good day.

at this time my heart hurts and I feel really sad that something like this can
happen to such a nice family with so much to offer and so much promise.
hopefully the people responsible for this tradgedy can someday experieance the
pain that they created ten fold. My heart and prayers go out to the Davis

Whenever there are tragic losses such as this, we should all be grateful for
the people we have in our lives right now. Say "I love you" every single day.
Sincere condolences to the Davis family.

I saw the subject line and deliberately passed by it the first time, I didn't want
to know.
I didn't know Mr. Davis or his family, but even so, I am saddened to hear of his
loss. We have suffered the sting of death in my family-- three years ago and we
still have not recovered. At the funeral, we read a poem and to this day, it
comforts me. Dear Mr. Davis, please accept my deepest sympathies. My heart
breaks for you and your son. -- Kristine

Nearness Of The Beloved
Goethe (c.1795)

I think of you when from the sea the shimmer
Of sunlight streams.
I think of you when on the brook the dimmer
Moon casts her beams.

I see your face when on the distant highway
Dust whirls and flakes,
In deepest night when on the mountain byway,
The traveler quakes.

I hear your voice when, dully roaring, yonder
Waves rise and spill;
Listening, in silent woods I often wander,
When all is still.

I walk with you, though miles from you divide me;
Yet, you are near!
The sun goes down, soon stars will shine to guide me,
Would you were here.

I usually think it inappropriate to copy and paste someone else's
statements of emotions but I can't put it any better.
I'm truly sorry for this loss and pain to the Davis family.

I'm very sorry to hear about this. Spike,I wish there was something we can do
to make things better.

I cannot fathom how someone would hit a car bad enough to kill someone, and go
home. I hope this person has the decency to turn himself in.

Spike,on behalf of the entire ACS, we're with you. May the Lord help you in
your loss.

My thanks to all who have forwarded their thoughts and prayers. I appreciate
it and, more importantly, Spike will as well.

In a bit of an irony, Ron Shock is performing in Louisville this week. This
is his first run out on the road since Ellen's tragic accident some 15 months
ago. In fact, Ellen is traveling w/ Ron. Those who stepped up to the plate in
their time of need, which sadly, continues, will be pleased to hear that he is
still the World's Funniest Storyteller even with the burden he now carries.

Update. 11-27-99

The Louisville Police arrested a man they believe was behind the wheel of the
cadillac. He has been charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence.
We will try to post information as we receive it.

On a personal note.I will miss Karen Davis. When Spike appeared at the club she
was always by his side supporting him in his dream. She was a good mom and
genuinely nice person...a truly good person. I will miss her.
