Subject: RESEARCH ON WOMEN IN CYBERSPACE! Please respond.
Hello,
There has been a growing interest in the sociology of computers.
In most newsgroups, e-mail use and online bulletin boards men outnumber
women by almost 5 to 1, though that number is rapidly changing.
Participation style and frequency of posting also differs between men and
women. Much of what is written (the subject matter) and style of
communication is assumed to be partly due to age and partly due to gender.
Yet this is only an assumption. So, if you are 29 years of age or above

and you are a woman please write to me your experiences as a reader,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
writer or both in cyberspace. You can write to me at msri...@scf.usc.edu

You must clearly identify yourself as a woman with information on your
age, ethnicity and employment (general not specific). You must also
provide an e-mail address through which I can reach you for any
further clarification. If for some reason you are uncomfortable
disclosing such information please give the reasons why.
Kindly identify the groups or services on the net you frequently use:
personal e-mail to friends, for professional work; cultural newsgroups;
chat rooms; internet games; web browsing; etc.
You can write about any specific experience you might have had online
and any impressions you might have in general about being a woman on the
net. You might, as a reader, share any comments or impressions you
have about other women, their treatment on the net and overall
impressions on gender issues that you may have. You can also dicuss how
your age is factor in what you read, write and what other cyberees do
online.
You do not have to provide me your real name nor any other identifiable
information. Kindly do not lie as this information will be used to build
theories in women's issues and help support male and female
representation. As such if you are a man do not respond to the study and
do not pretend to be a woman. If you are below 29 years of age please do
not respond to the study and do not lie about your age.
Disclose what you feel comfortable and I assure you confidentiality.
For any clarification kindly write to me at the e-mail address given
above and below. I look forward to hearing from you. Findings from this
study will be available on the net.
Thank you very much.

I AM A SECOND YEAR SUDENT AT MONASH UNIVERSITY, AUSTRALIA AND AM
VERY INTERSETED IN YOUR RESEARCH ON WOMEN IN CYBERSPACE. I'M DOING
JOURNALISM AS A MAJOR AND SOCIOLOGY AS A MINOR. ALSO I'M PROUD TO CALL
MYSELF A FEMINIST. I AM ALSO PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN YOUR RESEARCH
BECAUSE I HAVE THE IMPRESSION THTA WOMEN ARE LEFT OUT WHEN IN COMES TO
TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS. HOW FAR THIS IS TRUE I DON'T KNOW ANS I ENDEAVOUR
TO FIND OUT. THEREFORE I LOOK FORWARD TO RECEIVING A REPLY FROM YOU ON
THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGIES IN THE LIVES OF WOMEN.
Stop yelling, you're hurting my eyes! Unlock the Caps please!
BTW, how do you feel that women are left out when it comes to
technological progress, and what does this have to do with coffee and
sneakers?
