This is a great short, but something is driving me nuts, when Curly
makes the girl stand on her head, what the heck does he draw? She says
it looks like a boat upside down, but what was he meaning to draw? I've
watched this part three or four times now and still have no idea.

See Ya!

There is something in Pop Goes the Easel that is also driving ME crazy!
LOL..... HELP!

Near the beginning, when the Stooges are standing along the street
holding up signs. Curly's sign mentions that he is starving, and a man
and his son (eating ice cream) stop. The man asks Curly how long he has
been starving, and Curly replies, "Mister, I haven't tasted food for 3
days!" The man says, "Well don't worry, it still tastes the same!"
Curly gives him a "look", and then looks at the boy. The boy is off
camera, but by Curly's reaction, you can see that the boy has done
something... WHAT DID HE DO?

In my opinion, Pop Goes the Easel is a greatly underrated short. The
clay fight is classic! And the bit where they're dressed as women, and
Curly introduces Moe as his "mother"...... Oh man, that is SOOO funny!
I also get a kick out of Larry's scream when Moe and Curly have him
take "one more step" right out the window! LOL.....
Great, GREAT short!

Actually,
I think that he was trying to draw a grouse, I might be wrong I might be right,
but that is my guess.

Since when does Shemp misspell his own last name?

It was indeed the only Columbia short in which any of their children appeared,
But Joan Maurer also made a brief unbilled appearance in "Kook's Tour" as the
litterbug that hit Curly-Joe over the head with her handbag

I never noticed anybody else in that scene but the man.

Hmmmm... that's surprising, considering you were able to quote so much
of the banter that takes place in this short, from memory! As I stated
in my original post, "Curly's sign mentions that he is starving, and a
man and his son (eating ice cream) stop." Watch the short again, you'll
see what I mean.

Who would know there was somebody else in the scene???

Most people who watch the short, will notice the man and the boy eating
ice cream, who walk up to Curly.

Do you ever see the son on-camera?

Um..... yes.

I don't know what he did? Does anybody else know what this boy did?

This IS driving me crazy because when I first joined this newsgroup
several months ago, I seem to recall a discussion about this part of
the short. If I recall correctly, the discussion had to do with
something that was cut out of this part, (having to do with the boy)
but you still see Curly's reaction to whatever was cut.
Anyway, I hadn't seen the short at that time, but when I DID finally
see the short, I remembered this discussion, but did not remember what
was cut from it. I was hoping the person who originally wrote about
this would respond to me, or at least someone who knew what I was
talking about!

I like the sound effect they use for that one hit -- that deep, resounding,
hollow "THWUMP!" And yes, her reaction is priceless.

A little off topic, but that reminds me of how in the early years of the
show "SCTV" they would always subtly alter the spelling of the names of
famous people to avoid lawsuits. Thus, you would see "Tom Boslee" (not
Bosley) introducing a movie, "Orson Wells" (not Wells) doing a commercial,
and "Gerry Mathers" (not Jerry) as The Beaver. <g>

The kid had an ice cream cone, he was probably reacting to that.

Yes it is, classic.
But I still don't get why he has the girl stand on her head. It looks
like he's going to draw her, but then the picture he draws looks nothing
like a girl standing on her head.
Well, who knows, it's still funny.

See Ya!
