Ethelreda Leopold, who supported the Stooges in nine of their two-reel
comedies, died in California on January 26, 1998. She was 80 years of
age.
She appeared in some of the better comedies, including "A Pain in the
Pullman" (1936), "Back to the Woods" (1937), "In the Sweet Pie and Pie"
(1941) and "G.I. Wanna Home" (1946).
Ethelreda was a guest at the Convention in 1990, and more information
about her career can be found in The Three Stooges Journal Volume 55
(Fall 1990).

It is always sad to hear new like this, but since Ethelreda appeared at a
convention, she was embraced by stooge fans in her later days, just as Emil and
Edward Bernds were.

I saw Ethelreda at the Philly convention several years back, and was very
entertained by her. She was asked if Curly had been shy and quiet as reported
by some actresses. She said, no way! I'm very saddened to hear of her death.

I believe that Ethelreda Leopold was also one of the original Busby
Berkeley girls at Warner Bros.--which meant that she was probably one
of the healthiest women in Hollywood, thanks to Berkeley's strict
regimen and a dietary rules.

Apparently Curly was shy and quiet after the 1945 bad health period. During
the time Ethelreda worked with him, he was his wild uninhibited self. It was
his partying that impaired his health by the mid-to-late forties.

We are all saddened by Ethelreda's passing

For those who aren't matching the name with a face, she was the attractive
blonde among the three women who marry the convict Stooges in IN THE SWEET PIE
AND PIE.

I believe it is she who gets hit with the pie as she is hollering "Stop it, do
you hear me STOP IT!"

She was also in A PAIN IN THE PULLMAN and BACK TO THE WOODS.

I'm glad you added that, I was having a terrible time figuring out who she was.
Other than Christine McKintyre, and Connie Cezan, who I never enjoyed as much,
maybe because she did mostly Joe shorts, the only other female castmember I
could recognize was Simona Boniface. ("You act as if the sword of Damocles is
hanging over your head" "Lady, you must be psychic")

Thank you! I've been tryin' to place her, and couldn't. A local T.V.
station used that "Stop it" bit as a Stooge promo in the 70's, so I
remember it very well. -John
