Does it infer to a boxing term? I've never hoyd of it. I've always wondered
about some of the phrases the boys used in their shorts. As years go by, I
think they're going to be lost with future generations as the boys used a lot
of terms, phrases, song references from their era.
Some I'm come to learn:
Take a powder
Cop a sneaker
slight of handers
somambulars (sp?)
vice side kid (sp?)
anything "pig latin"
toots
dame
goon
pyareen(slang for dental problem now called peridontal disease!)
shake a leg
Anyone else care to add to the list?

"Would you please speak English and drop the vernacular!"
("Its a doiby!")
Nice list! I love slang from the 20's thru 40's
I like whey the Boys say "hiya", because my Grandfather used to say
that when we would see him.
I always wondered what the hell Curly said in Disorder in the Court,
after Larry does his Tarzan yell. (vice side kid, like you said). I
dont know if that is correct either, but at least it is close to what
he said.
When I was young, I would ask my Mom what a lot of the references
meant in the Stooges shorts, and Warner Bros. cartoons as well.

I think it was a song lyric or something from that day, but don't know what the
hell song it was. Jim Neibaur, who posts here off and on, said something to
that effect. See what I mean? This shit will get lost in the translations as
the generations go by!

Me too, I would ask my Dad, who also was in the music business and knew a lotta
the songs, but alas, he passed away last year at the ripe old age of 88!!!! By
the by, he LOVED Coyly!!!!!
