I recently e-mailed the programming dept. of WSBK in Boston to comment on the
new Three Stooges syndicated package. I mentioned that I was unhappy with the
new format and would like to see them air the Stooges as they had before:
uninterrupted by commecials and no filler. This was the response I recieved:

>Thank you for your comments concerning the Three Stooges. The current
>package is the only package which Columbia TriStar is currently making
>available for air. Effective this weekend, the Three Stooges will go on a
>temporary hiatus. Thank you.

>Christine Braga
>Program Coordinator

I wonder if others were displeased with the package? Maybe ratings fell? We
can only speculate as no reason was given. A station usually puts a series on
hiatus, that is doing poorly in the ratings and places a different program in
the slot to boost the numbers.

In 1959 not all the 3 Stooges films were released at the same time.
There were three 16mm packages totaling the 190; with ALL Besser shorts
in the final one.

The new 130 film package COULD be suplemented with the additional 60
later. I'm curious to find out which films were left out. I'd hate to
believe it was for any content concern.

I admit that I am not too crazy for the commercial interuptions on the Stooge
shorts after seeing them uncut for so long, but I would rather see the Three
Stooges this way on Channel 38, than not at all.
One nice thing about the new package of shows is that the Stooge shorts are
now closed captioned, and very nicely done, too! Whoever is typing out the
captions is getting just about every word and clanging sound effect perfectly,
and it is a new way for me to watch the Stooges-- reading the shorts!
I can deal with the commercial breaks on the Stooges Show, and I found the
inbetween segments were pretty funny. My main objection would be if the shorts
were cut, and they are shown complete, just interupted.
On Saturday Oct 2, I was already to watch them with my kids, and instead of the
Stooges I was stunned to see two infomercials instead at 10:00am . Geesh-- do
we have to go back to having them on at 3:00am on Channel 38? Then I can't
watch them with my boys as easily, unless I tape them overnight, then try and
find a time when we can all manage to schedule the same time together to see
them. Or worse, having 38 show more infomercials, and forgetting the Stooges
entirely!

I certainly was displeased. I would _much_ rather see six uninterrupted
Stooges shorts on Saturday rather than two Stooges shorts with commercial
breaks. I think Columbia TriStar is kind of cheating its Stooges fans by
leaving "Digitially Enhanced Stooges" the only one available for air. I was
thinking of writing WSBK too but I guess now it's too late.
