This morning I saw a film clip which featured Bud Jamison and the tall/large
gal that Curly danced with a spring hooked on the seat of his pants). In
the scene there is an argument and fight. Bud gets positioned near a window
then suddenly out he falls! It was not a Stooge short and seemed to be a
serious story.

It was used on "Whose Line Is It Anyway" where Ryan & Colin had to adlib
the "voices" for the film. This show version is the British one not the
later U.S. one with Drew Carey as host.

I think there were a number of common actors that appeared in Stooges shorts
but it was almost over when I tuned it in.

I did see another like this before with Bud and many familiar faces in the
same room used for a short..and all in the same outfits! They must have done
2 different shootings that day! A serious one and a comedy short. I found
that interesting.

Speaking of non Stooge Stooges character actors appearances. Did anyone see
"Million Dollar Legs" (1932) yesterday on TV? Vernon Dent played a small part
as Secretary of Agriculture in Klopstokia, mythical country run by President
W.C. Fields. Billy Gilbert (Men in Black 1934, Pardon My Scotch 1935) and many
parts in zillions of comedies, plays the Secretary of the Interior, it also
included Andy Clyde, Ben Turpin, and Hugh Herbert. A regular Cavalcade of
comedic stars. Worth seeing for any comedy fan. Legs was the film that
basically launched Fields into the upper strata of Comedic stars at the time.

Stephen, you have GOT to go to a fan club meeting......what was reallly
thrilling is watching some of the other two reelers that had all the supporting
actors, but no Stooges in them!!! The opening songs were different, but it was
the same background........all that's missing are the boys!!

I plan on asking Frank Reighter if he can get some of Shemp's shorts to show at
next year's meeting........that would be something to see how he acts solo
without the other two, but with the same supporting characters!!

That does sound interesting, Laura! I too many things going on for May. And
I'll be going under the knife next week for some major repairs..but if I
hear "Calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard" or hear my surgeon yell
"Cotton"..I'm getting up and walking out!

He's a great doc and I've been carved by him before. He's known as the
"masked the man" and says I tell jokes and kid around even when put
"under"..must be true..I heard the OR team repeating some of my best lines
once while awakening in "recovery". Not bad considering they were working in
my throat/lungs area at the time! LOL!...too much heavy lifting &
over-exertion has developed created a hernia..I got a sneak peak at the
ultra-sound and it's a mess to say the least...as long as I don't sneeze,
laugh or (oh my gosh!!!) cough(!) I may hold out till its fixed.

I'm going to watch "Hot Ice" the night before with Dapper trying to cut that
diamond out of Shemp....ouch!

Laura,

Based on your suggestion, preliminary plans are for next year's
meeting to have a "Solo Shemp Sunday" in the film room... Columbia and
Vitaphone material, and maybe some feature film highlights.

"I sure enjoy good pictures!"

Hey, that's great, Brent! Frank mentioned he didn't know if he could get a
hold of some of Shemp's shorts. This would truly be a treat, along with maybe
some of the "missing shorts" AMC doesn't show....it's been so long since I've
seen them, it would be like watching them for the first time again!

Now, if only they can get the buffet right this time..........

"Are you going to eat that chicken alone?"

"No, maybe I'll have some potatoes!"

"Oh, what kind?"

"Mashed!"

"You got 'em!"

They are usually held somewhere in the Philly area, due to the fact that most
of the relatives (and the fan club Prez) live there!!!

It is usually in May but can be during the summer too........the meeting this
year was in Bensalem, PA, north of Philly, and was May 5th and 6th.

Gary, any thoughts on where and when the next meeting will be, or are you not
at liberty to say yet?

The TENTATIVE and INCOMPLETE plans(don't book those plane tickets yet)
call for us to meet during the weekend of May 4&5, 2002 at the same location as
this year(Holiday Inn-Bensalem PA).
As for the "Shemp Sunday" films we will have plenty to choose from. I will
be bringing 16mm prints of "The Choke's on You", "Mr. Noisy", "I Scream", "The
Glove Slingers", "Henry the Ache" and a
blooper/outtake reel from "It AIn't Hay". Frank will bring "A Hit With A Miss"
and "Cracked Nuts". I also have 16mm prints of Shemp features "The
Leatherpushers" and "3 of a Kind" if desired/needed. Others may bring
additional titles, plus I'm sure I'll pick up a few more titles by next year.
We're also hoping to have Shemp's granddaughters there as an added treat.

Gary, are all these shorts? I prefer them over a full length feature film,
which I don't know if everyone will sit still for!

"Hurry, hurry, I can hardly wait!"

"Sit down, you Flatbush Flathead"

"Oh, shut up, I don't have to!"

Yes, these are a nice variety of RKO/Vitaphone/Columbia shorts and quite
difficult to locate in 16MM. I agree that the feature films may be too lengthy
to sit through, but we will probably have enough shorts available to fill out
the day without needing the features.
