I think your guide is wrong. It didn't sound right to me, so I checked and
according to my little book, Vernon Dent appeared in more shorts than any other
supporting member. After that, I would say Bud Jamison, who was the first, and
Emil Sitka, who probably was with the Stooges the longest, and after that,
Kenneth MacDonald, Christine Mcyintre (sp), and a handful of others before Al
Thompson, but I've been wrong before, so you never know.
I'm not sure about this, either, but I've noticed Cy Schindell in so many Stooge
shorts, it's not funny (well, yes it is). Cy never got billed as far as I can
remember, but he was the guy who always played the big dumb goon, or the big
dumb police officer, or the big dumb whatever, and he had a New York accent.
He's the guy who says, "Come across with that paper," in "Sing a Song of Six
Pants."
He appeared in some of the earliest Curly shorts all the way through the Shemp
era.
You couldn't call him a supporting actor per se, but he seemed to appear in a
lot of their shorts, maybe more that Vernon, Bud, or Emil, I don't know.

I'm glad you posted that. I've wondered what his name was many times, and just
last week I was thinking how many shorts he was in. My favorite of his is
Matri-Phoney, where he plays a Roman Guard for Octopus Grabbus, who gets
knocked out while sitting on a chair, and Moe and Larry move his body to answer
another guard, while Curly blows it by answering "they seem like pretty swell
guys" when the other guard inquires about the stooge's whereabouts. I loved the
New York accent too.

I'm pretty sure that he also showed up as a thug on the
Abbot & Costello TV show, a couple of times.

He also played a bouncer in "It's a Wonderful Life," and I think he had a couple
other movie roles as well.
