I've always thought that the producers intentionally cast tall women to
"show up" the Stooges, but noticed that most of the other men in the cast
are also at least a head taller than the boys.

Can anyone tell me how tall they were, or am I just imagining things?

The Stooges were all pretty short. I read about it in one of my reference
books (and I can't find the passage right now), but it seems to me that
their average height was around 5-foot-5. (Of course, since three of the
six Stooges were brothers, shortness would run in the family.)

If I'm not mistaken, Shemp was the TALL one at 5'3"!!
Read this in one of the main Stooge books out there.

While at the most recent Stooge convention, Gary Lassin showed me
Larry's actual drivers license which listed his height as 5'5". Of
course people tend to do a little fibbing so he may well have been
5'2'. In their shorts it would appear that Curly was a bit taller than
Moe or Larry, but Shemp appeared to be the tallest. If he was only
5'3" then the rest of them couldn't have been much over 5' or 5'1.
There was never any problem with having sufficiently tall protagonists
for the Boys. Emil Sitka is 5'9" so you can visually compare his
stature with the other boys for perspective.

Does the deer have a little doe? Moe, reading from "Hoi Polloi"

Yeah. Two bucks! Larry's witty response.

Your reward Roberta. I loved it.

In the most accurate books I have, they say: Moe and Larry were 5'4''.
Curly and Shemp were 5'5'' Joe Besser (the tallest) was 5'6'' and the
shortest was Joe DeRita at 5'3'' and a half.
