Was that an example of a *silent* heart attack?

Meaning, no warning?

As the story goes, when he was in the car?

Isn't there also a story that it was a stroke, and not a heart attack? I
seem to recall either reading this or being told by someone.

Jim,I read that he'd had a stroke in 1952.I also read he was taking
nitrogen pills.I don't even think moe even knew about it....About the
pills at that time.Shemp passed away of a massive heart attack in Nov.1955.

Maybe that is what I remember. It is interesting that we don't see a
discernible change in Shemp's performance after his stroke (whereas Curly
was very affected by late 1945).

Curly's deteriorating.

Re:Ok....If it's concrete,My mistake.But I ain't buying it just yet
Every book I pick up it says,heartattack...In forrester's
chronicles,Shemp's wife,(Babe)was quoted as saying,It was a heartattack.

According to Shemp's daughter-in-law, it was a massive stroke, not a heart attack.

Remember the fellow next ot Shemp in the back seat?,Shemp was well into a
cigar, the passenger didn't hear anything from Shemp, but,he smelled
something, the cigar burning his coat,so Shemp didn't let out a painful
yell,just fell against the passenger.

I denote a slowing down of Shemp after SPOOKS. Also there are some
scenes afterward where Shemp's hand trembles tremendously. HUSBANDS
BEWARE comes to mind (when Shemp is at the table and the wives start
getting beligerent after trying to eat their meal).

His hands always seemed to do that, even before his stroke, and it may
have even been intentional. Look at HOLD THAT LION in one part during
the file cabinet scene. I think it's when Moe says "I have to do
EVERYTHING around here!" where you can see Shemp's hands shaking.
There are some other shorts he does that in as well, but I can't
remember any other examples now.

I notice very little of new Shemp in all those remakes. The studio had
learned from the Curly experience, I think; and as a result, found it
wise to limit Shemp's work. His work is limited, though good.

I would bet dollars to doughnuts that it was an aortic dissection, the
same thing that killed John Ritter. Even today, there can be no sign of
it coming, and back then, they wouldn't have thought to look for it and
it would have been identified as a 'heart attack'.

Tommie's source of information is correct.

Sandie (born after Shemp's death) was only relating her mother Geri's
first-hand information. Geri is still with us; hopefully for many more healthy
years.

Geri was in the ER, with husband Mort and mother-in-law Babe that Nov. '55
night, and were told by the attending doctor that Shemp died from a cerebral
hemorrage.

The doctor who signed the death certifcate never examined Shemp. Indications
are, the death certificate is wrong.
