Laura
Laura-
The only ones that worked with all 4 of the third Stooges that I'm aware of
besides Sitka were Dent, McIntyre, Harold Brauer and Esther Howard. Dent and
Howard should probably have asterisks beside their names because they worked
with several of the Stooges in solo films, not just in Three Stooges films.
Even McIntyre probably deserves an asterisk because her appearance in a Stooges
short with Besser came only through the use of stock footage(although she did
appear in a Besser solo short). By the way, Brauer not only appeared in Stooges
shorts with Curly, Shemp and Besser as well as a DeRita feature, he also
appeared in the first episode of the New Three Stooges cartoon series in 1965.

Now that I think of it, didn't Bud Jamison pass on rather early? Then, I would
have to take back what I said about other actors appearing with all FOUR
Stooges....didn't Bud die in 1944??? That would leave Shemp out........
Laura
"Poor Shemp! He's gone!"
"And I owe him five bucks!'
What about Ruth Gordon [White]? Did she ever work with Curly Joe?
Now returning to my regularly scheduled lurking....

In order to answer this question, several distinctions must be
clarified. The Three Stooges were not just a trio of comedians, but rather
an enduring comedy legend with several manifestations, and so there are
several ways to interpret this inquiry.
First, we must distinguish between working with the men who LATER BECAME
members of the Three Stooges and working with them WHEN THEY WERE Stooges.
Shemp Howard, Joe Besser, and Joe DeRita each had their own series of
Columbia short subjects before they became members of the Three Stooges.
Does appearing in one of their films BEFORE they became a Stooge qualify an
actor as working with a Stooge? If so, then more supporting actors will be
included, of course. The question might be re-worded, "Was Emil Sitka the
only actor to work with all four 'sets' of the Three Stooges?" to
distinguish work done with individuals prior to induction into the Three
Stooges and work done with the team.
Another valid distinction to be made is whether or not to include
"re-used" footage. Most knowledgeable Stooge fans are aware that many of the
team's later shorts included scenes, sometimes quite lengthy, which were
produced for other titles many years earlier.
Examining some usually reliable reference books (although we must always
allow for the possibility of omissions and errors) reveals the following:
Vernon Dent worked in shorts with all the men who later became Stooges
but did not work with the Three Stooges when either Besser or DeRita were
part of the team. He did appear in one Besser/Stooge short, via re-used
stock footage.
Christine McIntyre did not work with the DeRita/Stooges, but she did
appear in several of DeRita's own two-reelers. Her appearance with the
Besser/Stooges is via re-used stock footage.
Harold Brauer, unless he also went by the name of Bill Brauer, never
worked with Joe Besser as a Stooge or otherwise, at least in the Columbia
Pictures comedies.
Esther Howard never worked either with the Shemp/Stooges or in Shemp's
own shorts. She appeared in Besser's and DeRita's own shorts but not with
the Besser/Stooges or DeRita/Stooges.
As I stated before, this is based upon my study of some generally highly
reliable sources. I welcome anyone with information to the contrary to
please sight specific films for the benefit of us all.
If the foregoing stands uncorrected, then Emil Sitka remains the only
supporting actor to work with "all four sets of the Three Stooges."
As a footnote, Vernon Dent, Christine McIntyre, and Emil Sitka all
appeared in films with Shemp, Besser, and DeRita before they became Stooges.
According to Columbia Comedy Shorts by Ted Okuda, The Three Stooges
Scrapbook by Joan Maurer and the Lenburgs, and The Three Stooges by Michael
Fleming, the cast of Quiz Whizz included Gene Roth, Greta Thyssen, Milton
Frome, Bill Brauer, and Emil Sitka. Unless Harold Brauer went by the name of
Bill Brauer for this short, he didn't work with Joe Besser. It is
interesting that another 'Brauer' should turn up, though.
I will call Ted and ask him. I co-wrote a book on Jerry Lewis with Ted, and he
is very careful about fact checking. And Ed Watz is one of the most
intelligent comedy film historians I know. If it says Bill Brauer in their
book, then it is some guy named Bill Brauer.
But I will look into it and report here.
Bill Brauer and Harold Brauer are the same guy. In fact he was billed as "Tiny"
Brauer in "Outlaws is Comin".He appeared in films with all 4 sets of Stooges.
Here's his Stooge credits that I know of:
Three Loan Wolves-Butch McGee
Fright Night-Big Mike
Six Pants-Terry Hargen
Squareheads-soldier
Feulin Around-Leon
Rip Sew Stitch-stock footage as T.H.
Fling in Ring-stock footage old Big Mike
Hot Stuff-stock footage Leon
Quiz Whizz-(as "Bill" Brauer)-R.O. Broad
Outlaws-(as "Tiny" Brauer)-bartender
New 3 Stooges Cartoons-episode #1-army sergeant
Brauer appeared at the Philly convention in 1989. He was a great guy with
plenty of stories to tell. He sat in the hotel lobby till late in the evening
just reminiscing about the Stooges and his career which dated back to WWI.
Sadly he passed away about a year later.
