thanks in advance,

You are lucky to have the ones you do. What I want to know is why did
those go out of print, and does anyone know of any plans for those,
and the rest, to be released (again) on DVD anytime in the forseable
future?

Who knows why they were deleted. But I would bet that sooner or later all
the Marx films will eventually have quality DVD issues. Who knows, maybee
even with special features and such. The rate at which old movies are put
onto DVD is slower that at the begining of the VHS era, but eventually I
think they will come around. There is money to be made.

Yeah, but not as much as can be made from the Matrix, the Matrix recycled
and the Matrix rehashed. I fear it will be some time before an enthusiast
does for our boys what someone else has done for Charlie Chaplin.

GOOD NEWS! Just saw a listing for pre-order listing on www.bn.com for
a DVD 5-pack for Marx Brothers. Probably the same that were previously
issued, but now you don't have to shell out $100.00 on e-bay. It's
listed for under $30.

Don't get excited- it's from Koch Vision. Probably public domain stuff
(trailers, TV appearances, etc.).
Wow! I just checked dvdpricesearch.com for MARX and found the old set. List
$34.99 Used: 309.88! I hope these folks lose out big time when new releases
flood the market.

But here's what the author said about the Marx Brothers films. Note it
says only three films were out on DVD, when there were in fact five.
And note the news about "Duck Soup":
""Duck Soup" is an instructive case. In 1997, Universal Studios, which
owns the film, leased the DVD rights for it and two other Marx
Brothers comedies — "Horse Feathers" and "Animal Crackers" — to Image
Entertainment, which released all three in a boxed-set edition.
That was the first year of the DVD. Nobody knew whether the format
would succeed. The lease lasted three years. When it expired in 2000,
Universal resumed ownership, and the Image box went out of print. (It
has since become a collectors' item, with some stores selling the few
remaining copies for $229, more than five times the original price.)
Meanwhile, one studio executive said, Universal has quietly been
assembling a respectable new DVD — creating a new negative (the
original nitrate negative no longer exists) and searching the archives
for bonus-feature material.
" `Duck Soup' is a special movie," said the executive, who asked not
to be identified because Universal has not yet announced the reissue.
"We want to treat it specially."

Some of the comments are pretty funny, too.
