Dear Mr. Feltenstein,
My fellow Laurel & Hardy fans and I hereby submit this petition in the
hope that you will consider releasing the Laurel & Hardy films your
company controls in a DVD box set. We are hoping for a box set in the
mold of your celebrated Marx Brothers and Tarzan sets, which contain a
handful of films and also some very special features such as shorts
and cartoons. The films we suggest are as follows:
FEATURE FILMS (and the trailers from each):
* The Devil's Brother
* Bonnie Scotland
* Air Raid Wardens
* Nothing But Troubles
ENTIRE FEATURE FILMS OR JUST THE LAUREL & HARDY EXCERPTS FROM THE
FOLLOWING:
* Hollywood Revue of 1929
* Hollywood Party
* Pick a Star
CARTOONS (all with Laurel & Hardy caricatures):
* You Oughta' Be in Pictures
* The Coo-coo Nut Grove
* Bosco's Picture Show
* Hop, Skip and a Chump
* Hollywood Steps Out
* Hollywood Canine Canteen
NEWSREELS:
* 1937 MGM newsreel, "Candid Camera Story (Very Candid) of the
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Convention" (featuring Oliver Hardy solo)
* 1939 in-house MGM newsreel about a party MGM gave Hal Roach on the
occasion of his 25th anniversary as a film producer (featuring Oliver
Hardy solo)
EXTRA SPECIAL FEATURES (surviving elements of the lost film, "The
Rogue Song"):
* The trailer from the "The Rogue Song"
* Surviving scenes from "The Rogue Song"
* The entire soundtrack to "The Rogue Song"
The DVD industry is finally catching up with the classic movie
collector. In 2003 and 2004, there were several classic films
released, many
of which were comedies. These releases included individual DVDs and
boxed sets of Chaplin, Bob Hope, Abbott & Costello, The Marx Brothers
and even some Laurel & Hardy releases. Clearly there is a market for
these films. We hope you see fit to satisfy this demand with supply,
specifically of our favorites, Laurel & Hardy. Your inclusion of the
"Rogue Song" elements would insure you a promotional "hook" that could
result in a lot of publicity and would surely be an added incentive
for both Laurel & Hardy fans and film historians alike.
Sincerely,
Paul Castiglia

However, I wonder if you were aware that there are websites that host online
petitions, such as
http://www.petitiononline.com/
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/
and others. Which is the best one for a petition like yours I'm not in a
position to say, but it's a strategy you might consider.
