NitrateVille sets out to provide an open discussion space for the
silent/classic film enthusiast and preservationist community using
more modern technology than early-90s-era Usenet. The interface makes
discussions easier to participate in and to narrow down to your
particular field of interest-- silents, talkies, collecting-- while
skipping what doesn't interest you, and lets you do things you
couldn't do on Usenet, such as edit posts or post photos.
In terms of atmosphere, NitrateVille is moderated "lightly but
firmly," so that civil discussions can flow completely freely and take
in the widest possible range of opinions, while curbing flamewars and
the like before they have a chance to spiral out of control and create
an unpleasant atmosphere. There is no agenda at NitrateVille-- except
to provide the most interesting and knowledgable people in the classic-
era film world with an online place to share information and knowledge
freely-- and thus to help grow the community of silent and classic
film enthusiasts worldwide.
It's only been in existence a few weeks but already has over 70
members, many of them notable names in the classic film community.
And speaking of notable names, Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy have already
come up a few times, we'd be happy to talk more about them and many
others. So please check out NitrateVille.com and consider joining and
participating. Thank you.
