Regards Brian
Opinions will vary, of course, but here are some films that a lot of
fans are fond of:
Two Tars
Big Business
Perfect Day
Brats
Helpmates
The Music Box
Sons of the Desert
Way Out West
But please feel to check out any Laurel and Hardy film you can get your
hands on, for you are quite likely to find some gems among those films
that do *not* commonly make the top ten lists. Here are some of my
favorites that generally don't make the "best of" lists:
Liberty
Chickens Come Home
Twice Two
Our Relations
Dancing Masters
--
"All things extant in this world,
Gods of Heaven, gods of Earth,
Let everything be as it should be;
Thus shall it be!"
- Magical chant from "Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi"
"Drizzle, Drazzle, Drozzle, Drome,
Time for this one to come home!"
- Mr. Wizard from "Tooter Turtle"
I would argue with none of these, and would add:
The Second Hundred Years
You're Darn Tootin'
Wrong Again
Bacon Grabbers
They Go Boom
Towed in a Hole
Busy Bodies
Laughing Gravy
Hog Wild
Dirty Work
Them That Hills
Tit for Tat
Blockheads
I know this list seems like a lot, but L&H made so many really
excellent movies, both short and feature-length, that it is hard to
isolate a handful as the best. I would say that, if you are looking
for a superb combination of slapstick, situation and that classic L&H
rapport that really set them above and beyond, you won't be let down
by these films.
Have fun!
