From Jeroen vd Schaaf @ Basta

Read this or not; it contains some replies and remarks to postings done in
this newsgroup the past months. It concerns The Beau Hunks, their cd`s and
the video

* The cd THE BEAU HUNKS PLAY THE ORIGINAL LITTLE RASCALS MUSIC, released in
the US on the KOCHScreen label, is no longer available. Why? Because Koch
licensed this album from us and they weren`t exactly ideal business partners
the last years. I am not going into details, but I assure you that this was
a decision that had to be made. We are investigating the possibility to
release the same compilation ourselves in the US.

* The above mentioned cd was released in a boxset COMPLETE LITTLE RASCALS
MUSIC. Besides a beautiful designed slipcase, this boxset also contained
another album ON TO THE SHOW. This album was produced by the BH theirselves,
and exclusively licensed to Koch, for the world. I assume Koch is still
selling this album seperately, although I noticed that it is listed as NOT
AVAILABLE on some websites.

* The boxset Basta issues contains two albums: PLAY ORIGINAL LAUREL & HARDY
MUSIC, VOLUMES 1 & 2. All of the LeRoy Shield tunes on both of these L&H
albums were available on PLAY LITTLE RASCALS MUSIC. Our boxset contains also
Marvin Hatley music (including KuKu) and some vocals (in which indeed a
Dutch accent can be heard). The music on the Koch album ON TO THE SHOW can
only be heard on that album. Be sure to get it, as the Beau Hunks think this
is their best album!

* I read a remark about *The Beau Hunks being a fine studio band*. On
saturday february 19, the Beau Hunks performed fully equiped (41 men &
women) in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. They performed extremely well, got
2 standing ovations and I personally had a terrific afternoon. During this
concert, they also underscored Their Purple Moment live on stage (the movie
was played on a 5 by 6 meter screen, the orchestra was playing LIVE the
music & soundeffects!)

* The Beau Hunks are Dutch, and not Danish.

* As already announced by Bram Reijnhoudt, the video BEAU HUNKS - LIVE IN
TUSCHINSKI is now available in both PAL (Europe) and NTSC (USA) versions.
This video contains the presentation of the first Laurel & Hardy cd in the
Tuschinski cinema in Amsterdam. We just started back then (1993) and this
video was never meant to be used for commercial release. We have made it
available for those who want to see a live performance of the Beau Hunks
anyway. The soundquality is fantastic.

* The recordings of the complete soundtrack of OUR RELATIONS are finished.
Next month, we will mix, edit & master. A worldwide release in August is
very likely. As soon as a definitive date is set, I`ll post a message again.

* THE FOLLOWING IS NOT MEANT TO ADVERTISE, JUST TO CLEAR SOME THINGS UP!

The conversion from dollars into guilders is as follows: 1US$ = 2 Dutch
Guilders. At this moment, the dollar is very strong (1 US$ = 2,26 Guilders)
, compared to the guilder. As we will charge creditcards in the amount in
guilders, a cd that would cost Hfl. 40,00, would go for $17,70!!! But of
course this depends on the value of the dollar. And there is always the
problem of the shippingcosts: we don`t charge handling, only shipping, which
is Hfl. 15,00 (US$7,50) for overseas priority (airmail) shipping. If all the
mailmen involved do their work the way they should, you usually have your
package within 8 days.

Hope this clears some things up. I don`t look in newsgroups often, so email
me directly if there are any other questions.

Thanks for reading & all the best ,

There's no need to be apologetic. I have the Beau Hunks' CD's (as the
"Little Rascals" releases) and I'm sure they'd be treasured by anyone
reading this newsgroup. Incredibly faithful, high-quality reproductions of
the original sound track music! The notes describing the transcription
process were also fascinating to read.

Ditto that praise here- and I'm also crazy about an earlier non-film
disc featuring a couple of the same musicians- the "Boulevard of Broken
Dreams" orchestra's "It's the talk of the town". Great moody noir-ish
renditions of old torch songs. Just the right accompiniment for a 30's
-40's thwarted love affair.

I took my daughter to the Silent Movie Theatre here in LA today to see the
Little Rascals for the first time (not silent, obviously, but Gord Bless the
SMT for showing lots of great old stuff)--and I paid much more attention to
the music than I did to the film. After listening to the great album by the
BH, you really appreciate how nice the music is and how much it adds to the
films.

I wonder how much better those Forty's Fox L&H films would be, now, if
someone could set some of the BH music to them? No doubt if the Fox people
had SOME music, it would've probably been better than having none, but if
those films had originally been made with Shield's or Hatley's compositions,
they absolutely would have been better.
Just likewise pondering the affects of that unequaled music,
Andy.
