Woodrow Willison was a Phi Kappa Psi. I belive that Bush was a DEKE but

I think every US president was in a Fraternity. I think Ronald Reagan is

I doubt this. Both of them went to Harvard which banned its fraternity
system. While I am not certain about TR, I *know* that FDR was a member
of the Porcellian eating club - in was not a GLO. Perhaps at one time it
was ADPhi, but it wasn't when he was there. Kennedy was also at Harvard
after the greeks were gone.
We can also add to the list of non-greek presidents Harry Truman (who
didn't go to college), Eisenhower (West Point, right?) in addition to
the aforementioned Grant and Carter.
I've never trusted that "Since 1825, all but 2 presidents..." stat.

That wasn't the way that the original question was asked.

Bill Clinton was a brother of Mu Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega at Georgetown
University.

Georgetown got rid of all of its social greeks in the 1950's and by the
time Clinton got to Georgetown the only greeks that were there were
there were a couple of a couple of professional greeks and Alpha Phi Omega
(which was all-male at the time).

From what I have been told by Alpha Phi Omega brothers who pledged the
Georgetown chapter at about the same time as Clinton (+-2 years) that
the pledging process was more strict than most of today's social pledging
programs.

(For example pledges were expected to have cigarettes with them for
the brothers and if jack brother asked for a cigarette to know which brand jack
brother smoked and give that to him. This would be considered hazing by APO
today and Georgetown no longer does that (and many other similar things).
(Though it still is one of the chapters in APO with the strictest
pledging set-ups).

Alpha Phi Omega differs in a couple of major ways from the Social Fraternities,
but most of them I don't feel are particularly relevant for Excluding Clinton
from the list.
1) Alpha Phi Omega is co-ed (but it wasn't in 1960 and there are co-ed socials
today.
2) Alpha Phi Omega is not housed. Agreed, this is a difference, but Pleges were
expected to spent significant time each day at the office the chapter of
Alpha Phi Omega had at Georgetown. (this office was about 30 feet by 40 feet.
The chapter had both Business meetings and pledge Line meetings there).
Also nothing prevents brothers from living together, the chapter just can't be
responsible for the housing.
3) Alpha Phi Omega is not NIC. As far as I know, all of the Presidents listed
are NIC, but I'm sure that a president who was NPHC or NPC would be similarly
listed. I'm sure a local would as well.
4) Alpha Phi Omega is not mutually exclusive. Bill Clinton could have been a
member of both APO and a professional fraternity at Georgetown, I don't believe
that he was.
5) Alpha Phi Omega is a service Fraternity, but I don't think that a group
doing too much service removes from being a "real fraternity".

I believe that some of the Presidents mentioned as brothers received Honorary
membership after they had left school, and while brothers of these fraternity,
Did they really experience the brotherhood gained through the experiences that
bind a chapter and a fraternity together?

Agreed. I think the division here should be between Honor Societies and
other GLOs rather than between Social Fraternities and other GLOs. While the
experiences of Professional Societies and APO is different than that of the
Social Fraternities, they still have the elemental key which is that they are
selective membership. Bill Clinton recieved a bid to pledge based on his
brothers decision that he was qualified to pledge APO and received a bid to
initiate based on his work as a pledge AND the decision of the brothers
that he too would make a good brother of Alpha Phi Omega.

While I respect the work neccesary to become a member of Phi Beta Kappa,
membership comes from what you have done academically and as far as I know
personal knowledge of the nominees for membership is not required.

C'mon!! I've tried to explain that Harry Truman is a Lambda Chi! He didn't
go to college, but he was initiated at the Missouri Chapter. Trust me, we
get that shit hammered into our heads all the time!!!

From what I gather, he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega. This
isn't well known in most circles, but he was also a member of the Order
of DeMolay, and received the Chevalier Degree, the highest honor that an
active DeMolay can receive, when he was 18(!) years old. You have to be
17 years old in order to receive the honor, and to have been invested
with the Degree when you were 18 is a significant accomplishment.
And yes, the Order of DeMolay IS a fraternity. It's the largest
worldwide fraternal organization for young men between the ages of 13 and
21. Bro. Clinton is the first member to become President of the United
States.
I too am a member of the Order. AND PROUD OF IT!!
