I'm back again to post more specifics on NYU's Big Apple Bowl coming up in
the fall. This posting will probably be the last post for me this semester
as finals are quickly approaching. So if anyone has any questions after
this posting, please contact me ASAP as I will probably be leaving NYU for
the summer on May 4.

The following will be the specifics regarding the tournament. If you have a
question, please don't hesitate to give me a ring because I want this
tournament to be very smooth (GOD ain't I so uptight?!)

1. Dates and Accomodations

The tournament will take place on Friday night and Saturday, October 7th
and 8th. The agenda for Friday will be as follows:

6:00-6:45 Registration
7:00-7:15 Quickie Intro
7:15-7:30 Meeting with officials and scorekeepers
7:30 Round 1
10:30 Round 7 (last round on Friday)

Saturday's agenda will be as follows:

9:30 Round 8
Actually, I think we'll start a little later.

10:30 Round 8
12:30 Round 12
1:00-2:00 Lunch
2:00 Round 13
3:00 Round 15 (End of Round Robin)
4:00 Quarterfinals
4:30 Semifinals
5:00 Finals

This schedule is tentative, if it changes at all, I will make another posting.
We are in the process of trying to find the cheapest and closest accomodationsfor you and your team. I will post specific places later, but I can tell you
that accomodations will run you anywhere between $75-$145 for a room of four.
We're also trying to find enough spaces for all teams. If we are unable to
find some teams space, some members of NYU's team have offered to put up some
people. All of this is being worked at even as I'm pounding away here. I will
try to notify everyone ASAP.

2. Structure of Tournament

Tournament enrollment will be capped at 30 teams. The teams will be
divided into three divisions. There will be 15 rounds in a round-robin
format. Each team will play all teams in its division ONLY. There will be
no inter-divisional play. At the end of the round-robin, playoffs will be detdetermined by the top two finishers in each division, and two wild cards with
the two next highest record. This will give teams that feel they might
not place in the top two a chance to get in the playoffs.
The first round of the playoffs will consist of 8 teams. Each team
will be seeded according to place and record. Here is a list of how seeds
will be determined:

Seed 1: The first place team with the highest record
Seed 2: " " " " " " second-highest record
Seed 3: " " " " " " lowest record
Seed 4: The second place team with the highest record
Seed 5: " " " " " " second-highest record
Seed 6: " " " " " " lowest record
Seed 7: The wild-card with the higher record
Seed 8: The wild-card with the lower record

Normal playoff pairings will dtermine which seed plays which (1-8, 2-7, etc.)

Tiebreakers will be determined in the following order:

1. Head to Head
2. Points Per Game
3. Total Bonus Points

If you have any questions regarding the structure please contact me.

3. Question Packets

The tournament will be in a MCBI format. Questions should be slightly
more challenging than CBI. Since the tournament will consist of two 7-minute
halves, each packet should contain 30 questions. This should take into
account editing and possible tiebreaker questions. Each packet should have
30 tossups and 30 bonuses (or boni). Each packet should be broken down into
several categories. Please try and be diverse with your question writing.

4. Deadlines

The deadline for making a reservation for the tournament is Sept 24. You
may either e-mail me or contact me by phone. Questions must be sent by Sept
30 (this is cutting it real close, so please make sure you get your questions
in on time)

5. Prices and Credits

Here is a list of the fees and credits for the tournament:

$60-Regis. fee for each team
$50-Regis. fee for each additional team

$5-for each: Buzzer system, clock (pref. visible)
each game official, and any question
packet received by Labor Day (Sept 5)

PLEASE NOTE: The earlier we receive your materials, the more time we have to
prepare for the tournament. If you would like to send questions
or RSVP's before the end of the year, we will be able to get it
ready before next year.
