Ladies,

I just received my Dawn Colorforms and I must say.......AWESOME!!!
However, a couple of the pieces don't stick anymore. I remember
someone posted how to fix this, any suggestions? Please let me know.

I used oil- specifically vitamin E oil- applied very carefully with a
toothpick under the areas where the plastic had air bubbles between the
cardboard and the plastic skin. You have to be very carefully when
smoothing out the oil with your fingers, so as not to break the
plastic. IOt helps the pieces stick to to apply a tin layer ontop of
the plastic skin. Hope this works for you!!!

Well, I'm no lady, but I will reply :)...I would recommend Formula 2001, an
automotive vinyl Protestant. I use it all the time in my cleaning and
restoring of vinyl dolls like Dawn and Barbie. Since it is made
specifically to condition vinyl and plastic, it should work on your
colorforms as well. Just make sure the colorforms are clean before spraying
them. Wipe any excess off and your pieces should be shiny and new looking.
This product also make a good hair conditioner for dolls, I use about 7-10
squirts to a 2 quart pan of boiling water for setting curl or straightening
tangled hair. You don't need much. It's also good for conditioning the
dolls themselves, especially if you have a Dale that has that "dusty" look
to her dark skin. Same here, be sure to wipe excess off of your doll, don't
want her to look oily skinned.

Welcome to the group, I will be careful to address future correspondense as
Ladies and Gentlemen. (ha!ha!) Thanks for the advice, do I get this stuff at
a automotive place? I'd like to give it a try. Do you do any re-rooting work?

Thanks!

Dan,
It is so nice to have you join us!!!!
Thanks for the great info! My hubby
works in a automotive store and suggested
for me to use Liquid luster( a car wax) Up til now it has been great but I dont
use it in the dolls hair I will call my hubby and tell him to bring the formula
2001 home so I can give it a try!

Thanks to all for the warm welcome(s). You can get Formula 2001 at any store that
sells automotive supplies. I've found it at places from Wal-Mart to the the
grocery store. It's in a bright green bottle. I have had some experience in
re-rooting Barbies, but have yet to try a Dawn type doll. I find it very tedious
and feel the very small Dawn heads would be even more difficult... OR...they could
just be much quicker..I guess I should try it and see...:)...ANYWAY, I do know how
to re-root, so if you have any questions, I will try to answer them. Most of my
restoration work has been cleaning, re-painting, and re-setting hair for Barbies.
I have sort of gotten out of the Barbie thing and am wanting to spend more time on
my Dawn collecting. Barbie became too much of business and money and I want to
have fun collecting, not have to see grown people fighting over the last Harley
Davidson Barbie on the shelf. All that to say that I hope to do some more creative
stuff with my Dawns, I'll keep you posted of any discoveries I make along the way
that may help with your own Dawn collecting and restoring.

Hi Dan-- Well, since you asked ;) ..I just acquired a few of the boy dawn dolls
and one of them has a bluish nose. Any ideas/suggestions on how to remedy that
problem? Also, stuffed in the doll case I found a baggie with a small
Dawn-like bald head (hair area painted black) with four wigs, a brush, and two
of the teeniest pink plastic clip on hair rollers. Do you have any idea
who/what this is? TIA-Caren

You have a cool non Dawn-Topper item I would kill for. I had one of those
bald head girls when I was a kid but its one of the items that is MIA from
my childhood collection. You know I really don't know if they are that
sought after but I wouldn't get rid of the head and wigs... But it seems to
me it all came on a card.... without a body.

the Dawn goddess...

Hi Mel-
Sorry, I don't have a scanner to send you pics but Dana told me that the
"head in question"<lol> is in Joedi's book. I may have access to a scanner
soon and I have some really cool knock off dresses I would like to share with
everyone. There is one that looks like the "mystery outfit" from the contest
that was Tonnvane's site. My mailman thinks I have a mad crush on him at this
point. I've been meeting him at the door for a week looking for Joedi's book
to arrive! :) -Caren

...Well, it would depend on the cause of the blue tint. Is it an ink or marker
stain? Is it just a discoloration in the vinyl? If it is a stain, try some Oxy10
creme and let it dry on the dolls nose for a few days. This acne creme acts as a
safe bleach on vinyl dolls. You could also try the Removzit (sp) product advertised
in many doll magazines. I have never had dramatic results with it but many people
say they have. If it is a fading of the vinyl itself, I have not found a good way
to re-color it. I have tried the dye method mentioned in some doll magazines but it
is not necessarily a permanent solution. I have used design type markers as
blushers on my restored B*rbies and they create a nice soft color when blended with
some nail polish remover on a cotton swab. Maybe a marker in an appropriate skin
tone could work on the nose as well. Since the nose is bluish, select an orangey
flesh tone as this will act as a balancing color, negating the blue. When I do the
blush, I wet the area with a bit of nail polish remover (non acetone type) and then
draw on a circle of blush. Quickly, I then take the cotton swab, wet with remover,
and carefully blend the blush outward as you would with real make-up. This has
worked really well for me and so far, after several years, has not faded. This
approach could work with your problem, though I have not tried it. Also, placing
your doll in sunlight is a natural bleaching process and sometimes can remove light
ink stains.

HEHEHE- this cracks me up!! Does anyone else find they have a new
relationship with the mailman since starting their Dawn collection?
I almost hugged the UPS guy when I had the historic Dawn day awhile back
when I received my $20 colorforms and beauty pageant lot. And he's not a
hunky one by any means. Anyone else having problems in exercising
restraint when ripping your fix, er package, out of the mailman's hands?
They really have a hazardous job between the snow, sleet, hail, biting
dogs, and Dawn crazies.

LOL My mail man is a mail lady and I have to go to her for my mail! When
something does come in most of the time I open it right in the post office, and
she gets to wittness the tearing open of the box! She has even told me she has
never seen anyone open a package as fast as I do! One time when I was waiting
for something to come in I walk to the post office
6 times from 8:00am to 3:00! sandy

I have all my packages shipped to work, to avoid having them sit in the FL sun
in a metal mailbox. I must go by my mail folder at least 10 times a day!!!! My
co-workers have found me digging thru the mail tubs looking for boxes and
envelopes with my name on them.

Like they don't already think I'm nuts.

Dan & Caren:

I have a suggestion for faded/washed-out vinyl doll faces: oil pastels. I've
only used it on one doll face, a Longlocks that I had whose face was as white
as a ghost, but it worked pretty well. It has to be an oil pastel and
usually the orange colored ones work best for Dawn. I don't think it would
cover up any imperfections but it would work to re-color. I also think that
an under-eye cover makeup stick would probably work--you know how some of the
"less expensive" brands have an orange tint to them. I used a wet q-tip and
just blended away. It did take some time to blend evenly but it worked
pretty well. It definitely looks better than the ghastly white color her
face was.

Hee hee! There is one mailman who delivers at 9:15 am in the morning. He now
calls me by my first name and says there's "ANOTHER package for me" at the
intercom.
