The first building we visited is called the "doll building" it houses
most of the doll dealers. I went to my first two dealers (they always
have Dawn dolls). I wasn't disappointed. I got a long haired side
parted Glori. She is gorgeous. I also got a Glori in Midnight Lace in
neon, a Glori in a dress that looks like Fancy Feet's but a different
color. An knockoff Peachy Kean in fushia, an bride dress with
beige underskirt on a hard head Dawn. Not shown was a HTT
Dawn complete with wigs and a beautiful Longlocks with the most
gorgeous short hair complete, and a Ron in Up, Up, and Away
which is mint. The only thing I am missing is the briefcase. Anyone
have an extra?
I passed up at least one hundred dolls because I already have
them but it was a great Dawn Day. I saw Heidi and Peggy there.
They will probably want to tell you about all the wonderful things
they saw.
Well needless to say I am tired (got up really early to go). So I will
be Snoopy dancing on my way to bed. Yipee, Elaine

Before you buy.
I am so glad to hear you had such a wonderful time. The man who
sponsors that show told me it would be impossible to be disappointed
with it. Its 10 acres of nothing but Toys & Dolls. I am glad its the
one we decided to build the convention around next year. Just more to
look forward to.

The only major thing I bought was a NRFB Dinah in Pajama Drama. I thought she
was expensive ($100 after some haggling), but I could do worse on eBay, and I
love the fact that I could take her home right away.
I also got Dawn's kitchen set in excellent condition (but missing the dishes),
the bedroom (missing 2 finials on the canopy posts) and the beauty parlor (also
exc., but missing 3 nail polish bottles) for $65. I was really hesitant about
buying these things because I know I could have gotten them cheaper on eBay,
but sometimes you don't know what you'll really end up with. The furniture I
got today is clean and in really great condition. The other thing that almost
held me back is how *big* the stuff is--I know it was designed for Penny Brite
originally, but sheesh--I never knew it would be *this* big. You'd think Topper
could have redesigned it a bit for Dawn. Where I'm going to display it, I have
no idea LOL.
As Elaine said, there were lots of Dawn dolls, and lots of loose clothing.
There were plenty of *common* boxed outfits (most around $30 or more), and
about 10 MIB model dolls (that I saw), but I felt they were really expensive
($65 MIB, up to $125 for the NRFB girls, and I saw a NRFB Van for $185!!). I
also saw a Dancing Glori in the white mini for $60. Elaine's SPSH Glori is
*gorgeous.* Great find!
Overall, it seemed to me that the prices were higher today than last spring; I
spoke to the show's organizer last week, and when I told him that I collect
Dawn dolls, he said "oh yeah? they're hot right now; we've had a lot of people
asking for them." So I guess the dealers were well aware of it. I saw a lot of
crummy dolls that had price tags of $18 to $26. I'm talking hair that stands
straight up, lots of missing plugs, missing feet, green, etc. I picked up a SP
Glori that looked like she had potential (except for no eyelashes), but when I
lifted up her hair in the back, she was practically bald, as if only the hair
on the very top of her head was still rooted in. $24? Puh-leeze!
But all in all, it was a FANTASTIC day :o) Thanks, Peggy, Elaine and Joedi for
making it so much fun!
(Sorry this post got so long--)

LOL! That is ok, I will still look around for you!
I got to meet Heidi, who is as cool as her emails. And as funny. Met her daughter, Melanie, who is also very cool and very funny and 11. And met her cousin/best friend Sue who is also very cool and very funny. We had a **lot** of fun.
I ate a hot dog.
I had two cokes.
I saw a lot of weird people.
I saw an anatomically correct custom Xena doll.
I got to meet Elaine and Joedi, so I was able to put two more faces with names.
I think someone f*rted.
I had a lot of fun.
The end.

Prices were significantly higher than the last show but I think that
most of them were below Ebay prices. I didn't find anything all that
exciting in the Dawn line but I splurged on a side part Dawn that has
the part almost down to her ear. The hair falls just in the right
place and she looks very exotic.
One of the dealers, Hilary James (Toy With Me), is from Stanton Island
and she said she was set up at the Buffalo show. She enjoyed all the
conventioning Dawnettes. She will bring all of her Dawn things in
October for the convention. I know that other dealers will too.
I have a bunch of info for you Johnna about the show, directions etc.
There was another show at the Kane County Fair Grounds that was only
dolls but it sounds like it is no more. This show is much smaller
than it used to be (we have been going 3 times a year for 7 years) but
it is still the best thing going for toys and dolls. It will be a
great part of next year's convention. There is something for everyone
and then some.
We just got home and the Trick Or Treaters are about to come knocking
on the door.

My Yahoo auction isn't going well. I noticed that no one is bidding on
any of the Yahoo auctions even though several have cheap starting bids.
I might just try our local website (who I work for BTW). It's free to
list, but costs if the item sells. However, since I'm an employee, I can
get a refund. A bit of a hassle, but I'm thinking that there must be
some locals here who collect Dawn dolls, and it might be fun to meet a
few and not have to worry about shipping. That will be my next
experiment!
