NEW USPS Delivery Confirmation

The United States Postal Service now offers a new service
called Delivery Confirmation. For only 35 cents, you can track your
Standard or Priority Mail packages via the WWW and obtain confirmation
that your mail was delivered.

You may note that the customer receipt piece has the WWW
address to track packages, which is www.USPS.com. I will use one of
these labels for the 1st time today, to track a package to Wayne
Youngblood, publisher of Stamp Collector, that will contain my Elvis
"missing color" stamps discovered today. It will be the label
pictured, so you may feel free to track this package as well, by
entering the number on the label pictured. When the postal service
picks up this package today at 4pm CST, the barcode on the label will
be scanned. When the carrier returns to the Post Office at 4:30 he
will insert his scanner into a cradle which will charge the scanner
and at the same time, upload the information (including my package
tracking number) into the USPS data network, including the World Wide
Web.
Delivery Confirmation is normally available over the counter.
At my stamp office, the USPS provides excellent service, and will stop
twice per day. Once about noon to deliver and pick up mail, and once
again in the afternoon for a final mail pickup. They will be
allowing me to use Delivery Confirmation without having to present the
packages over the counter, just as they allow me to mail stamped
"targeted" priority mail without presenting it over the counter.
Reason being that I am a "known customer". I mail a lot of stuff!
In due respect to hightened airline security, I always state what my
packages contain, most often stamps and/or computer software. The
USPS provides extremely excellent service for my stamp business.
