Aloha Stamp Collectors,
Greetings from the Hawaiian Islands.

Jozef de Veuster was born in Tremelo, Belgium and took the name Father
Damien upon becoming a priest. He volunteered as a missionary to
Hawai'i and is famous for his life work attending to the needs of
lepers at the Kalaupapa leper settlement on the island of Moloka'i in
the 19th Century.

Because of his good works and personal sacrifice (he died of leprosy
himself), the Vatican recently canonized Father Damien on October 11
2009. In celebration of the Sainthood of Father Damien, Hawai'i Post
issued a set of stamps the same day. You can view these St. Damien
stamps at:
http://www.hawaii-post.com/2009-11OCT.html

You can view previous Father Damien stamps issued on the 130th
Anniversary of his arrival at Kalaupapa at:

Hawai'i Post is an express mail delivery company on the island of

Amicalement,

--
