Trying to get an idea of the value and desirability of a platinum LP of
Lionel Richie's Dancing on the Ceiling, produced by Motown, presented to a
sales rep for 1,000,000 sales. It's in a frame, along with a platinum
cassette, small photo of Richie, and holograph of the RIAA.
It's not my kind of music, so don't laugh.

Why would I laugh at quality disco-soul? :)

Tom

PS No idea on the value, sorry, but I'll have it for $20... :)

The key is to find someone who loves Lionel Richie. Many people may laugh but
he has die-hard fans. There is no intrinsic value for a platinum award but
artists like Richie don't usually fetch top dollar-- unless you
find the person who wants that more than anything in the world. (He's out there
too.) There are two problems though. Usually an award made out to a record
company employee and radio station dj is worth WAY LESS than one presented to
the artist, the label or someone involved with the artist in a substantive way
(manager, band member, producer). The other problem is that it looks like the
MAJORITY of awards on eBay these days are fakes. People are wary and unwilling
to pay decent prices knowing over half the "awards" are counterfeits.

OK, so how do I know this whether this is real or fake? I thought I'd list
it on ebay but don't want to be selling a fake. Appreciate any info.

Do a web search on Lionel. Try to find an authorized fan site. The webmaster or
mistress should have an idea which fans might be interested in your item.
They may also have a good idea about it's value.

If you're interested, here is the official Lionel Richie website. Hope
this helps, and good luck on your auction!

Pat,
I already found it yesterday. Thanks anyway. In my description I explained
my ignorance of these things, but today I got a request for another platinum
award. oh well.
