Just got the latest catalog yesterday, and for those
of you interested in the lower end pens, there are
two new ones that look worth checking out. First
is one called the "Prima", for 24.95. Just a guess,
but this looks a bit like the "Gelato" that they've
offered before, which actually was the Yafa Gellisimo -
and it was a terrific pen (I have 4 of them), very
flexible nib, great feel to it. I'll be getting one or two
of these.
The other one, also very interesting, is a 29.95
Pelikan Pharo, a really handsome silver pen.
Unfortunately, as listed, it only comes with a medium
nib, so I haven't decided on this one yet.

The best buy in their catalog is the Parker Sonnet Cisele' Fountain Pen and
Rollerball combination for under $200.00!

I've been using rollerballs off and on since the middle 70's, and when Parker first made theirs, the refills wrote very nicely and they came in both "medium" and "fine". Now, they are only "fine" and IMHO they don't write as well, but I really can't explain why that is. The retro51 and Pelikan are better writers in the rollerball configuration to me.

Happy Holidays to all. :-)

Hmmmmm. I find both medium and fine refills both here in town and on
the web. For the record, the Parker 0.5 writes MUCH better than does
the more commonly found 0.7. But the best refill for roller balls
around (it doesn't fit Parker), so far at least, is the Pilot G7.

Then again, Parker has just come out with gel refills the same size as
the T Ball Jotter refills. Fits in any Parker ballpen. Only 2 bucks,
but they don't last long. But what nice writing while they do! :)

who knows it!

Where did you buy your Parker gel refills? Do you have any problem with
the gel refill drying out due to evaporation in an uncapped ball pen?

So far, Levenger--and only Levenger--seems to be carrying them. I have
had no problems with evaporation. The colours are rich and intense,
the points extremely smooth. These are marked medium. It is my
understanding that a micro or fine version is on the way as well.

john cline ii who only laments that the only colours seem to be red,
blue and black--no green, brown or purple!

There is an article in the September 2001 Stylophiles on-line magazine (www.penlovers.com and look for the Stylophiles link.) It is about "parker style" gel refills for bp pens, made by Yafa Pen Co. of California. Clearly, they are not made by Parker.

I bought some from Swishers, and unlike Mr. Cline, I was deeply disappointed. I don't know if the refills offered by Levenger's on their web site are the same item.

I know that the present Parker rb refills are marked "gel", and those are also disappointing.

Anyway, happy holidays. We have learned again what we always knew...the world does not depend on fp vs rb vs bp.

These are NOT the ones offered by Levenger. The Levenger ones are made
by Parker Pen in the United Kingdom. They are FAR superior to the YAFA
refills.

They aren't. Mr. Cline wasn't thrilled with the YAFA ones either.

Actually, no. Parker doesn't make a gel rollerball sized refill at the
moment. The ones you found are old stock. New ones ARE coming. If
they are anything like the new ballpoint sized ones, they will be
grand. By the way, the Parker rollerball refills for ballpens have
metal casings (not plastic like the YAFA) and have a wideband of colour
on them the same colour as the refill itself.

john cline ii who says accept no substitutes! :)
