Best Paper for the Pen?

I was wondering if you all take the time to figure out what papers work
best for what pens? For example, do you notice certain inks and nibs
work well on a given brand and weight of paper? If so, do any of you
have high recommendations for a pen that writes well on Crane's cotton
stationary?
What other paper selections and favorites do you all have?

Try Ampad Gold Fibre pads for just general writing.
I try everything at least once, but stay away from recycled stuff.
Favorite letter writing paper is Amalfi.

I generally use whats available at the time but I do have some
HP 32 printer paper that is ok. It has a good weight and feel
and seems to be favorite of many.
I've used that paper for a few fold-notes that have been sent a
good 12,000 miles away. As far as I know things have held up
pretty good. I always manage to embarass myself by smearing ink
and the hp 32 might have more sizing than similar papers.

I used to match pen to ink. Then, Noodler's came out and I NEEDED (heh) to
have that Black and Legal Lapis in my Namiki Falcons. After that, it seemed
more important for me to color-coordinate my inks and pens so it's easy for
me to tell what color is in which pen although I still do favor my Parker
Sonnets by not using Noodler's Black and Legal Lapis for purposes of
performance. They do better with Quink and Skrip.

Yes. For example, during the past two weeks, I've noticed that medium Kaweco
Sport Ices with Noodler's Apricot Orange and Bay State Blue bleed through to
the next page in my Ampad when I write slowly, but not when I write faster.
Since my fine nibbed pens don't do that, I attribute it to the nib size and
the speed at which I write, not the inks or the paper.

Not really. I do use Crane's for my social stationery, but considering that
Crane papers were around before ballpoint pens were invented, and liquid ink
was the norm from back when, it never occurred to me that fountain pens and
Crane's wouldn't be compatible.
For example, on Crane papers - letter papers, correspondence cards, notes,
gift enclosure cards - I've used:
1. Fine and medium Namiki Falcons with Noodler's Black and Legal Lapis, a
mix of Sheaffer and Montblanc Turquoise.
2. Fine Pilot Ecrinos with Noodler's for Swisher's Aquamarine Blue, and
Iraqi Indigo.
3. Fine and XF Cross ATXs with Skrip Purple and Turquoise, Noodler's Shah
Rose.
4. Fine Waterman Phileas and Kulturs with Skrip Turquoise, Waterman Purple,
Pelikan Turquoise.
5. Fine and medium Namiki Vanishing Point with Pelikan Turquoise and
Noodler's Legal Lapis.
6. Fine Parker Sonnets with Quink and Skrip Blue. Noodler's Burgundy is
okay, too.
7. Fine Pilot Petit1s with included Brown, Apple Green, and Mandarin Orange.
8. Medium Kaweco Sport Ices with Noodler's Bay State Blue and Apricot
Orange, Montblanc Sepia.
9. Fine Parker Reflexes with Quink Blue, Pelikan Black and Violet, Noodler's
Blue.
I may have forgotten one or more, but you get the picture. Of course, YMMV.

For other paper, I generally use Mead or similar loose-leaf binder paper,
Ampad Gold Fibre or Evidence pads, Neenah, inkjet printer paper (whatever's
white enough, bright enough, and cheap enough), steno pads, and Oberon
journals.

Since I posted that, I tried writing a letter with my new Pilot Prera and it
was so bad that I switched to a different pen. It felt like I was trying to
write on sand paper with a needle. Ugh.

I find Crane's paper to be wonderful for writing on with my dip pen, and
tolerably so with my Mont Blanc. The problem with the Mont Blanc is that
it's an extra fine, and because the Crane's paper has such a fine grane,
the ink doesn't just soak into the paper. That means I get a truly light
and ethereal line. It's not bad, just different than writing on normal
paper.
