I know it will probably be considered to be blasphemous to post
this question on a FP site. But if pen lover's don't know the
answer, no one will.

I have never found any ballpoints to beat the Skilcraft ones I
used in the service. Retractable (black and silver) or stick. I
know they are still gov't standard.

Does anyone know where a civilian can Skilcraft products?

I had a friend in the National Guard who had a bunch of these. You are
right, they write like no ballpoint should be allowed to write.

>Does anyone know where a civilian can Skilcraft products?

A quick search shows that Skilcraft comes up with this page for National
Industries for the Blind:
http://www.nib.org/products.htm

"N I B-associated agencies provide 2,000 products and services to the
General Services Administration, Department of Defense, U.S. Postal
Service, Department of Veterans Affairs, military commissaries and
exchanges, and other departments of the Federal Government. Marketed under
the tradename SKILCRAFT"

Looks like you have they only sell to government organizations so you
should renew acquaintences with your old service buddies.

Actually, after I posted this, I found a site called JWOD.com
where they can be ordered. JWOD is an acronym for the
congressional act that requires the gov't to buy from certain
vendors.
I registered and placed an order. We'll see if I get it. I
couldn't find any "Federal Gov't only" disclaimers. Prices are
VERY reasonable (about $4/DZ for the retractable.)

Hey it worked. If you want to get a hold of Skilcraft pens, go
to http://www.jwod.com.
Free shipping, no tax (at least in my state) and next day
delivery!
Can't beat that with a stick!

I am happy for you. However I can't understand why anyone would want
cheap ballpoint pens made by prison labor at Ft. Levenworth.

Just for the record, the pens are made by National
Industries for the Blind. From their website (http://www.nib.org):

N I B is a private, not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to enhance
the opportunities for economic and personal independence of persons who are
blind, primarily through creating, sustaining and improving employment.
Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, N I B accomplishes its mission by
developing business opportunities in the federal, state, and commercial
marketplaces for 88 associated agencies operating 120 industries in 38
states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.

Granted, they are ballpoint pens and are subject to the same inhehent
characteristics that make all ballpoint pens substandard writing
instruments when comapred to fountain pens but(and it's a big but), they
are the best ballpoint pens I have ever used. They are inexpensive but
most certainly not cheap and your tax dollars pay for the majority of them
in use.

Wayne Menzie who has no idea why this is interesting to him except that he
wants to steal jkii's signature style and still remembers his amazement
when first writing with a Skilcraft pen while filling out an accident
report at the exit of Yosemite National Park and accidentally forgetting to
return the pen before he drove off.

john cline ii (jcii) who, as an employee of said Federal Government
has access to Skilcraft pens and uses them, too!

I certainly hope you're not an employee of the executive branch. Given the
above confession to theft of government property, I suppose I cooked my own
goose.

Wayne Menzie who continues to shamelessly imitate jcii's signature style
and is hiding in the closet fearing the G-men who most certainly are
surrounding the perimeter as we speak based on the incriminating newsgroup
post discovered by the very same jcii.

Please DON'T go back to lurk mode, John! I was very grateful that you came
up with a source for the Skilcraft stuff. Many Government agencies don't
carry the variety of Skilcraft material they once did, and I for one am glad
to know where I can get not only the ballpoints but the 1.1mm mechanical
pencils too.

Yes John Burdan, do NOT go into lurk mode, you were just the brunt of
a wee joke! We love having great contributors like you around!

In addition, let me say this:

No danger of ME being in lurk mode in this group!

Especially now since Yaderp is back (YAY!)

Especially since from time to time people bash my favourite orange
barrelled fine point classic stic Bics (must have SOMETHING to do with
the colour!)

Especially since some people think that some of us don't like Mont
Blanc pens only because it is fashionable not to like them (junk is
junk, and precious resin is NOT precious, but then MB has made many a
fine pen....most of them long ago)

Especially since these are scarey times in the pen industry, what with
A T Cross in serious financial difficulty, Parker and Waterman both
being evaluated by an outside consulting firm for possible sale,
computers taking over the writing instruments' function as far as most
younguns being concerned, mass merchandisers and internet commerce
displacing small, local retailers who often carried better pens (but
not the most expensive ones), etc.

Especially since this group seems from time to time to get off the
track in some of the most delightful ways

and Especially since someone has to be around to know when to
recommend a book (well.....)

Speaking of which, is Greg Clark still around here? I haven't seen a
reference to HIS book for quite some time....

and finally, this group needs all the Johns it can get....(giggle),
especially with all the poop sometimes seen! (GROAN)

john cline ii who is pleased to be a contributor to this here place
and hopes he brings a little levity to the madness and a wee bit of
information too!

We used them to make pens to smoke weed.

Hi John,

www.blind-made.com carries a wide selection of SKILCRAFT products, including the U.S. Government Pen used by the military. As holds true to the SKILCRAFT brand, these products are blind-made in the USA by visually impaired professionals. The website is a consumer site and open to the public, so all civilians are welcome!

Please let us know if there is any way we can be of assistance.

Thank you for your support in our mission.
