Rockola 440 trouble

Hi. I picked up this machine yesterday. I did some fiddling around and
it worked perfectly. Now i have a problem. Sometimes i select a record
and it wont play it. The carousel and carriage wheel just keeps
spinning. Sometimes it will pick up and play thee record, finish the
cycle and put the record back, but then it wont return to the home
position. the carousel will just keep spinning along with the turntable
and carriage wheel. Any ideas?
