Hi

my dad owned a drive-in and I grew up in it. He had a Seeburg
Discotheque jukebox. I was wondering how I might get one
of these and how much it would cost.

Thanks
Jill

would play?

I'm not absolutely sure which one this is,, but ....

I have a Seeburg STD-4/Seeburg 160 with chaser lights in a horseshoe
at the top and bottom which I **think might be a Seeburg discotheque.
Big blue cabinet with plastic inerts (3 horseshoes top & bottom, with
a gradient from red to blue in them). Has abut 160 selection &
absolutely great sound. Can anyone verify this is the beast in
question?

I paid around $400 canadian ($240 US & delivered) , if I recollect
correctly.

You shouldn't have any problem picking one up. They are a great (but
heavy!) box.

good luck

The model you are probably refering to is the 1965 "Electra" or
"Fleetwood". These Had a large flourescent sign above the title board
that said"Seeburg Disc o Theque". This could be optionally lighted
with Black Light for effect. If you are interested let me know and I
can get you a nice one for about 500.00 + shipping from CA.

Don't forget the 1978 SMC1 Jr. It too had the same discotheque name and scenery.
It's not nearly as nice as the Electra and the Fleetwood.

While we are on the subject, what is the difference between the Electra model #
PFEA1U and the Fleetwood model # APFEA1?

To really confuse the matter, the model SMC2 had the disco mirror ball in
it. That model however was named "Phoenix". The model SMC1 was named
"Disco" but did not have the disco ball in it nor did the word
discotheque appear on it. This is not to be confused with the SMC1 Jr.
The SMC1 Jr. which was made in 1978 and was almost a exact copy of the
1964 model U100, did have the word "Discotheque" on it.

Now I will try to sum this up but I'm sure I'll loose some of you who
aren't familiar with these machines.

The 1966 model PFEA1U named "Electra" and the 1966 model APFEA1 named
"Fleetwood" had the word Discotheque (with the "o" being a drawing of a 45
rpm record) in the artwork. They also had a three dimensional look on the
lower front. Part of the picture was an inch or so behind the glass and
some of the artwork was painted on the glass itself. I don't know the
difference between the two models.

In 1978 the model SMC1 was named "Disco" but had no other disco or
discotheque references on it.

Also in 1978 the SMC1 Jr. (which used the same cabinet as a 1964 model
U100) had some of the same artwork from the earlier PFEA1U/ APFEA1
models. I am not sure if it had the three dimensional art.

In 1979 Seeburg came out with the SMC2. It had a mirrored disco ball in
it. The SMC2 however was named "Phoenix."

The "A" prefix in the Fleetwood number stands for "Album" Play. Like
the LPC-1 and LPC-480 it has a special mechanism and Tormat to play
both sides of a record (if both are selected) before moving to the
next one. Because the Tormat has two read-out loops there is also a
special control unit used in the Fleetwood with two trip circuits, if
both sides are selected it plays the left while a relay "stores" the
right side. Upon completion of the A side the record returns part-way
into the magazine, then the motor reverses pulling the record back
out, moves the tone arm to the right and plays the B side. These
models only search for selections on the left to right scan. The
right to left is only to return the mech to the beginning. Album play
also allowed the machine to be programmed to optionally play both
sides of an Album with a single selection IE press A1 and it will play
A1 and B1. Such selections were usually priced higher than singles.
The 33 rpm records available at that time had two or three songs on
each side so with a single selection it was possible to hear as many
as six songs.

WHY confuse the matter?

SHOW SOME PICTURES.

This is a group that allows pictures isn't it.

A picture would help clear up the matter.

Typically, only newsgroups that show the word "binaries" in the name are
supposed to have images posted to it. For a good explanation as to why
this is so, I came across the following web site:

I don't think you will find that the charter of this group includes the posting
of "binaries" (pictures, etc) The problem is not everyone is in North America
with fast connections...in some places 14,400 would still be considered a good
link, and it might well be a long distance call for some of the lurkers on this
group.
I think we should create a group called bin.coin-op.pictures for those that want
to do that, they can then post a note here stating where to find the picture...
Alternatively, most folks have their own (small) web site as part of their ISP
package, that should be used for this sort of thing...

i thinks it would be okay to post binaries here (just dont over do it)
also put it in the subject so people who dont want to download it know
ahead of time. This group gets so little traffic that anypost on topis
is nice :)

As I recall the original charter mentioned that pictures were OK. Having
acknowledged that, I don't think it is a good idea. For one thing, many
sites including ours use spam-filtering software (cleanfeed in our case)
which silently discards binaries in any group outside of the "binaries"
hierarchy. Some cancelbots also run which will remove binary posts from
non-bianry groups. Likewise, DejaNews won't archive the binaries.

Better choices, IMHO, are to either:

1. Put the picture on the web and put a pointer to it here.

2. Post the picture to the alt.binaries.pictures newsgroup and put a
pointer to it here. (You _may_ not want to delve too much deeper
into that particular heirarchy, but alt.binaries.pictures is OK.)

This way, all of us can see it.
