what causes the hum in a jukebox

i am working on an ami g-200. got it playing pretty good but i have a hum in my sound system. the hum adjustment doesnt make any difference. what do you think. thanks norm

If the hum is sort-of nasal (120hz) and not variable with the volume control, it is the filter capacitors in the amp.

---Amps of that age MUST be rebuilt or they can destroy themselves due to leaky capacitors. those older AMI amps are particularly hard on their filters due tot eh fact that they switch the high voltage (called B+) between each record.

If the hum is deep (60hz) and varies with volume setting , it is probably due to faulty wiring of the pickup. Unplug the RCA plug from the tine arm at the amp and see if hum goes away.

i unplugged tyhe tone arm and is still has a loud hum.the amp itself has a good sound other than the hum noise. i have been looking at the amp and replacing the small resisters and capacitors doesnt look like to big of a job but what about the upright capacitors. is there a good way to replace them and where is the best place to get the parts to replace the transistors and capacitors. thanks norm
