I had to wire in a credit switch in my 474. Never found a free play setting.

No attract mode either. I have seen a 474 come into my shop that was
set on free play. It involved cutting one of the wires to the credit
unit after credit had been established. I remember thinking I really
needed to write down which wire it was (I had previously wanted to set
a 474 to free play in the past), but unfortunately I didn't. Maybe if
you or someone reading the group has a schematic of the wiring to the
credit unit they can figure it out.
