I'm looking for collectibles from the Walter-Raupfer Brewery of Columbia City,
Indiana. The W-B brewery was originally the Eagle Brewery, but was purchased
in 1879 by Ford Walter and Benjamin Raupfer. Of course, Prohibition put an end
to the brewery in 1920. The W-B logo is an eagle perched on a wooden keg with
its wings fully spread. I'm also seeking general information on the brewery.

Dear P.Newman,

The info. on the W-B Brewery is off a little bit.

William Walter.................1868 - 1872

Schaffer & Walter............1872 - 1875

H. Schaffer..........................1875 - 1879

(Fredrick) Walter & ( Benjamin) Raupfer...1879 - 1893

Walter - Raupfer Brewing Co. ...........1893 - 1916
(Whitely St. & Ellsworth St.)

By 1916 , 23 states where voted dry. Indiana being one of them.
There is no mention of an Eagle Brewery. But for a brewery that was in operation
for 48 yr it will be hard to find collectibles. But DO NOT give up,
I found a collectible from a brewery in Minnesota from the late 1800`s
that was in operation for only eight years. Somtimes I think the fun is in the
hunt.

Good Luck& Cheers,

Dr. Draft,

Thanks for the owner lineage. My information on the Walter-Raupfer Brewery
comes from a short biographical sketch of Benjamin Raupfer in the "History of
Whitley County, Indiana" by Kaler and Maring (1907). I'm curious as to your
source of the lineage of owners of the brewery. The brewery was producing (or
at least had the capacity) 9,000 barrels per year in the early 1900's! Given
this capacity, I was hoping for a
bit more memorabilia than I've found available. Apparently the Whitley County
Historical Museum has only a few W-B memorabilia items, but otherwise there
appears to be not much available.

Linda,

I head operations for Chapman's Brewing Co. out of Angola, IN. We are opening a brewery/taproom in downtown Columbia City this Aug 2016 and we love the brewing history of Columbia City. If you still have a Raupfer bottle, we would be interested in purchasing this and having it on display to help promote/tell the story of Columbia City's great brewing history!

I have a bottle from the Columbia City brewery, cork, and dark brown. What do you think it's worth. Sending pictures maybe. Not to good with the internet thing.

Good afternoon;
I'm writing this about a year after you posted your message.
My great-grandfather was Frederick Walter, one of the co-owners of the Walter Raupfer Brewery from 1879-1893. My grandpa was Grover Walter, and my mother was Anna Marie Walter Richard. I'm Janean Richard Farley.
If you still happen to have this or any other bottles from the Walter Raupfer Brewery, I'd be interested in purchasing it from you. I have many family members who would like to own a piece of our family history.
Thank you. Have a great day!
Janean

22 years after this conversation was started I found a Walter Raupfer Brewery bottle in the Tippecanoe river near Warsaw, IN. Would anyone be interested in this? Send email to lizard...@gmail.com and I will send pictures
