I have a Peace bear. How can I tell if he's the regular Peace or the pastel
Peace? Thanks in advance.

Pastel peace will have NO brown on him at all. The colors will be 'powdery' and
washed out looking. I have ben burned MANY times on online pastel Peace
purchases. Not many can tell the difference. If you put a reg/neon/old Peace
next to a true Pastel, you will see the difference right away. Pastel looks like
he was in the sun too long and faded a little. Pale pink, blue and purple. No
hot pink, neon green or brown.
Pastel Peace is, BY FAR, my fav.

Yeah, I finally figured out that my Peace is NOT pastel...of course, it wasn't
sold to me as a pastel Peace, so I didn't think I was buying a pastel Peace. It
was one of the first beanies I had in my collection. I want to find a pastel
Peace to add to my collection, but my problem with all the TieDye beanies is
that they all look different, and I want to handpick mine or see a pic of the
exact one I will be buying. I've seen some TyeDye battys that I wouldn't want,
and seen some that are gorgeous. My Peace is beautiful, but I have seen some
pastel Peaces that I like better.

As far as the Peace color debates go am I the only one who thinks there are really 3
different colorings?
There's the original Peace with the very deep/bright colors. There's a lot of
orange, yellow, green, and some rusts and browns.
There's the pastel Peace that looks very lightly colored. There's baby blue, light
pink, soft yellows and mint greens and no browns at all.
Then there's the latest batch. They have softer (not quite as light as the pastel)
colors. They have soft blues and pinks, brighter greens and yellows yet they have
some of the olive greens and rusts of the old version.

I've had all 3 of these before and they all look pretty different. Although this
latest batch if yours didn't have any brown on it could be confused with the pastel
if you'd never seen a pastel one.
Am I nuts or has anyone else noticed this?

I've noticed, Kris! I know exactly what you mean. The first batch of
"non-pastel" Peace bears is definitely different from the Peace bears I see in
new shipments now. I prefer the older ones. There was less brown & garish
green in those, & what was there blended better w/the slightly darker blue &
salmony pink IMO than the browns & greens now. I don't like to see a bear
that has the lighter shades (I'm not talking pastel-light) & then a big splash
of brown or darkish green on the face or down one arm. Looks weird to me.

I did a trade with someone recently and in the course of our phone
conversation we got to talking about Peace. She said, "Go look at a
Pastel Peace then compare it to an older one. The Pastel one will have
less of an obvious 'nap' to the fabric -- it will appear smoother".

I went and looked, and she was RIGHT! The pastel one I got from you,
Kris, was much less "nappy" fabric than some of my older ones.

It's hard to explain in print, but if anyone has a confirmed "pastel"
Peace, go compare it with an older one and tell me if you see the same
thing I described.

I haven't gotten many Peaces since that one, Kris, so I haven't looked
at fabric appearance on "newest version" ones yet.

you're not nuts, I have 3 of them sitting in front of me at the moment and
there are definitely 3 different ones. another difference: the one I picked
up today has stuffing in the chest like all our other bears, our oldest
ones are kind of "deflated" and so is the Pastel one.

(for the first time ever today I saw a shelf-ful of Peace, Erin and
Princess for $5.99 - proably because there were lots of newbies so
they were going first)

I can see that. Pastel has more of a smooth sheen to it.
Never noticed that before. :)

Does anyone have a pastel Peace bear that is mostly blues and peachy colors?

I'm also confused on this. Stopped in one of the few stores in town
that sells all beanies for $5.50 yesterday. They had tons of new ones
in today, but by the time I got there after work they only had Butch and
Stilts (have them, but got them for my nephew...UUGH...missed Millenium
and Sig. for $5.50!). Anyway, they were also allowing 1 "new'" Peace
bear (and also 3 of each on Erin, Princess and Fortune...first time I've
ever seen the first 2 for $5.50!). So, I got a Peace thinking it was
pastel (they were behind the counter), but on closer inspection it looks
like the other 2 old ones I have! He's a little lighter, so who knows?
No biggie for $5.50 I guess. By the way, this is one of 2 stores I
stopped in yesterday that had gotten their first orders since
November...
