Here is a portion of a letter form Jons mother, and the web site
address, Please just take a look at the page!
I have three children all now grown. I have a son and daughter older
than Jon that are adopted and then there is Jon my only natural born
child. In April 1989, Jon was 17 years old and driving from MO after
seeing his brother in Bible Collage. Jon was a senior and was to
graduate in June but a drunk driver left the bar angry and was going to
end his on life. This drunk driver was headed head on toward my son and
he only had three choices from what we heard from witness... Jon could
of Jumped the bridge and maybe landed on a car under the bridge, or Jon
could of went in the next lane and hit a family driving in a wagon with
4 children 7 yrs, 5 yrs, 3yrs, 4months plus parents, or take the drunk
driver head on which that is what Jon did. The drunk died at the
accident and almost took Jon with him. Jon suffered a severe closed head
injury, many broken bones, a damaged kidney & spleen. Jon's brain injury
was so severe that when we brought him back home he was taken to special
Education for an additional ten years. Jon still can't read, write,
walk, very much difficulty speaking. He don't have the use of his right
hand or leg due to contractures. He has the use of his left hand and leg
and he tries very hard to dress beanies, carry beanies around, put
stickers on posters ect...
Jon loves his Beanie Babies and his trading cards... I am a single mom
and I am staying here at home to give Jon the care that he needs. I have
tried to purchase all the beanies that I could or Jon could until the
price went way high. We live in a rual area so finding beanies isn't
easy. Jon knows what he has lost but there isn't hardly a day that goes
by where you don't see Jon smile... All the things we do everyday and
take for granted Jon needs help with doing... Watching TV all the time
is blah so I was real happy when Jon turned his interest to Beanies so
he could have a hobby and feel worthwhile I think we all need that from
time to time..... We all need to feel like we are worth something....
Jon is now 26 and he no longer needs to wear diapers or has to be tube
fed, but with the little he has improved a lot more in required....
Thank You so much for listening and helping Jon I could go on and On I
lost my husband and Jon lost his Dad because of this accident.... Things
are finally looking a lot brighter and I have the Beanie Babies and the
wonderful people who love the Beanies Babies too. They have really
helped a loving, giving young man.....
Whatever anyone can help with either with the TY Cards or a Beanie or
Buddy or just going to Jon website or dropping Jon an encouraging letter
everyone has done something and at every age.....
God Bless,
If you have more questions please let me know.
Joanne
