carts that dont have album art on them

Hello,

I noticed yesterday that a few of my tapes dont have album art on them,
Are these "pirates"?

Hard to say. Many "authorized" released didn't bother with "album
art," which is sort of a joke on anything other than an LP anyway.
Most all of RCA's club carts simply had a gold background with the
track listing and the RCA logo. As time came for 8 track to be phased
out, you'd see more and more of this, as the labels refused to pay for
multicolor lithography for "cart art." Look at the copyright info (on
any release after 1972) and see who released it to see if it's a
pirate job or not.
