According to my father-in-law, there was a German highwire act early
in the 20th century that came to America. As he remembers the story,
there were two partners and one died. The other formed an acrobatic
touring act with two or more "adult midget men" which was called Paul
Remus (or perhaps spelled 'Rehmus') and his Toy Boys.

The story goes that they performed in NY City and appeared on the Ed
Sullivan Show (or perhaps Ed Sullivan's Toast of the Town).

How can I do some research on trapeze/highware acts? I know there used
to be catalogs of circus acts -- there was one on eBay from 1924
titled something like "Circus and Hippodrome Acts, Fireworks Displays
and Spectacles, Auto Races, Auto Polo and Aviation Bands and
Everything You Require."

I knew Paul Remus and his Toy Boys many years ago when I lived in NYC. They lived in the Master Hotel (apartments) at 310 Riverside Drive. The two dwarfs where acrobats and dancers. They performed at various shows in the city and also in the theater at the Master Hotel. They used to show some of the performances on the internet. My grandparents lived there for several years and their apartment overlooked the Hudson River and New Jersey. I often saw the twins in the lobby of the hotel. They were very friendly and quite funny. As the years went by Paul Remus could not hold the boys at the top of the cross piece on the pole anymore, but they still kept singing and dancing. My grandparents were Bernard and Eva Morgenthau.
