Some 300,000 people in the country may be infected with HIV by 2015 if
no effective prevention measures are undertaken from now.
Out of this figure, 188,838 would be aged between 15 and 49, said Dr
Janizah Abd Ghani from the Penang Health Department at a "Women, Girls
and HIV/AIDS" workshop held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), here,
on Thursday.
"This figure is just a forecast, but the Health Ministry is well aware
of the HIV/AIDS threat and several programmes have been drawn up to
increase public awareness on the disease.

quadruple) its HIV rate within just eight years.

Statistics from the Malaysian AIDS Council showed that there were
1,497 HIV/AIDS sufferers until June 2009. Out of this figure, 1,234
were men and 263, women.

I'm guessing that's how many new cases of HIV antibodies were
diagnosed during 2009 up until June. About 3,000 cases a year. I
don't see how that's going to add up to 220,000 new cases of killer
HIV by 2015, especially as "...the number of HIV carriers in the
country is decreasing..."
