I am a fairly new chin owner, My daughter and I notice something very
strange. It seems like one of the chins seems to get a erection, and bits
his private. We do not know what to do. And we are scared. Is this
normal? The male chins are around 7 months old, and we have never seen this
behavior before. This really frighten my daughter. What should we do?
Please Help.................... Thanks a bunch, Jerry

may be a "hair ring" that forms around the P and is uncomfortable for
the male chin. someone else more knowledgable could comment more.

I have noticed that young males do that quite often, they seem to stop
doing it as much when they are around 10 months or so. Unless the chin
seems to be having a problem retracting his penis back to its normal
state, don't worry. However, if it appears that the penis is hanging
outside and not retracting, he probably has a hair ring. This must be
corrected ASAP or your chin might obtain some permanent damage or get an
infection. Either take him to the vet or remove the hair ring yourself.
Check on the article on hair rings at www.cachins.com it has a lot of
useful information.

I know it can be embarrassing to watch chins demonstrate this
behavior...but just give him a little privacy. :)

Hope this helps...

Susan and the 17 (Ingrid is due soon...so more on the way!)

Hi there!

My male chins Benji and Cuddles do this all the time, I have to say I think
it is more for pleasure than anything else much like the male of the human
species - and yes it can be very embarrassing if you have friends round -
luckily Cuddles hasn't shown me up yet ;-D

I also noticed that my male hamsters used to this as well, when they get
very excited they play with themselves - sorry but there is no other way to
put it!! If you look at your chin's bottom and his penis is still in the
foreskin - then rest assured that it's nothing to worry about - as susan
says - give him a little more privacy ;-P

PS,. check for a hair ring, but usually they do not get it from this action, but
from other actions. But that is not a hard and fast rule, as chins will get hair
rings from all sorts of strange actions.
By all means check him.

this is normal, and at risk of starting another war, he is not cleaning himself
he is pleasuring himself,
But others will disagree with me.
