I thought I'd share a theme day I do each year that is always a great
success. (we needed a daycare post here in between these troll'ish posts
that seem to be popping up). If anyone has any ideas to add to this
theme, I'd love to hear them.

Tomorrow, April Fools day, I am having Whacky Tuesday. It's a day to
just be silly and share a giggle or two.

I invite my children to bring with them on this day something that will
make their friends smile and giggle. A joke, a funny storybook or tale,
a song, or wear a funny outfit or a funny hairdo.

Games and activities
-"Twister" -game rules modified to suit age group.
-face painting like clowns.
-outdoors, we play follow the leader. The sillier, the better!

Crafts
-we make silly hats and funny eye glasses. Using bristol board and a
variety of items to decorate (buttons, feathers, sequins stickers etc).
- make funny-face stick puppets.

Circle time
-children share what they brought for show and tell. Usually they have
joke books, or funny storybooks.
-We play a game of making funny faces.
-Dr. Suess books of course are a great source for toungue twisters.
-Silly songs such as "Ackindrum", "Punchinello"

Snack and Lunch ideas
- Dr. Suess lunch of green eggs and ham and blue goo (blue jello or
jello jigglers)
-apple smiles (apple quarters spread with peanut butter, and mini
marshamllow "teeth")
-funny faced sandwiches or pancakes. Provide cut up fruits or vegies for
facial features. Dried cereal and raisins also.

I love Wacky Wednesday. I've done that in the past. The children wore
crazy looking outfits. I turned the furniture in the playroom upside down.
It's alot of fun. Hung pictures upside down.

Wow you guys!
Where do you get the energy? I,m up @ 6 am every day & kids here by 6.30
am. I have a hard enough time getting painting & playdough going! I,d love
to take the time in the evenings to organize some but I have other
commitments.
P.S. I also find the kids here 5 & under when I plan something they don,t
want to do it! I think its a conspiracy! Also how do you budget in the cost
of extra things? I never seem to have enough money;-(
*Should probably raise my rates!*

Want cheap stuff for craft? visit the local dollar store, ours has tons of
stuff.

I rarely spend any time in the evenings planning. I tend to do it all in
the afternoons during quiet playtime (none of my kids nap).
I should explain my playroom/set up. I have a huge playroom specifically
set up for nursery school. My paint and playdough are out all the time.
I have a huge craft table that I put extra activities out on. My group
are also 4 and 5 yr olds.
I don't want to make anyone feel bad when I post my theme ideas. I just
like to share ideas that have worked for me, for my (older) age group. I
also post in hopes people will share their ideas with me as well, such
as Nanci did. It's all to benefit the children in our care.

When it comes to young toddlers, I am not so full of ideas. I will have
a whole new group of little toddlers next September(my current group
will all be going into grade 1 then), and I will be asking....no
...BEGGING you guys for advice! So....don't go anywhere, please. ;o)

hEY cj,
don,t worry, I don,t feel bad;-) Just wondering if I am mismanaging my
time too much & could cram more fun in! Things go smoother & quicker when
were all busy.

That is one of my daughter's favourite books :-)

Another Seuss theme is for the "Green Eggs and Ham" book. I actually have
this as a pc game and you can get a board game.

Here's my stuff on this theme, inc. two web links. One of the links has an
online jigsaw.

http://www.randomhouse.com/seussville/titles/greeneggs/
http://www.preschooleducation.com/greenegg.shtml (click on the links on the
side for crafts, games etc)

Resources: Green Eggs and Ham PC game
Reading Book

Food: Scrambled eggs (with green food colouring) with Ham and toast

Crafts:
Placemat (from website)
Carton critters from egg boxes
Eggheads

Circle Time:
Cut out pictures of food from magazines and make a chart with "Like" and
"Dislike" on the two sides. Arrange food into columns. No right or wrong
answers.

Science:
Leave a hardboiled egg in vinegar (shell dissolves).
Try to squash an egg longways (they are super strong).

Anyone else got Dr Seuss themes?

Donna
