Strange names aren't they? All meaning the same though. My oldest child
stopped using it totally right before her third month and then became
attached to a blanket (which she still snuggles with on her bed at bed
time at the age of 12 *no comments about that please*....), she took up
the habit of sucking on her pointer and middle finger though at the age
of six months, however, stopped that nasty habit at the age of one. Her
teeth looked OK and still do.
My youngest promptly spit the pacifier out at the age of one and thought
nothing of sticking her thumb in her mouth and with her pointer finger
would rub the beginning part of her eyebrow all through the night while
she slept. Very odd to watch, but very soothing for her. It came to a
point where she was wearing away that part of her eyebrow and leaving a
red circle like callous. Strangely it looked like a horn was going to
grow out of her forehead!! LOL! In either case, by the time she was
three I tried EVERYTHING to help her stop sucking that thumb and help
promote her eyebrow to grow hair back in that spot. I put band aids on
her thumb and on her eyebrow every night for one week. Before she went
to sleep I read a book about "No more Thumbsucking" night after night
after night substituting the characters name for her own. After one week
the hair on her eyebrow began to grow back, the callous on her thumb
started to go away as well and we were ALL happy once again. She has no
detrimental effects either thus far from any of her soothing
companions...
