Colouring books

Hi Everyone, curious about your views on giving children colouring books
and similar pictures to colour. We get told it suppresses children's
creativity. I think it's fine as they practise their fine motor and
hand-eye co-ordination.

Coloring books don't suppress creativity. The person standing over their
shoulder harping about "color inside the lines" and "trees are not
urple" - now that suppresses creativity.

Any drawing and colouring is good for motor and hand/eye co-ord. Personally,
I don't use colouring books on a regular basis, especially for under-5s, I
prefer blank paper. But colouring pages are fun, too, and I print lots of
the internet especially for specific themes. I nearly always have a cheap
colouring book and some crayons in my bag for when we are out, too.

My son concentrates very little at the moment as he's only 2years. However,
give him pens. papers or colouring books and he will sit and get busy with.
He really enjoys that because afer a while, he will return with his fine
scribblings telling a story about. Although can't understand everything
lol - they actually help in so many ways.

I don't use colouring books but now and again I use cut outs of specific
items for the children's interests and I always have to explain myself!! I
don't think there is anything wrong with it. Fabia your child is also
learning to concentrate and practising his language skills. I will add
these to my list of the benefits of colouring in books and cut outs. When I
do these activities with the children they are free to do whatever they
want. If they colour out the lines that's fine and if they want to colour
the entire picture in blue that's also fine.

I LOVE coloring books~! I sit down and color with the kids.I have all
kinds of coloring books and i print out pages.We also pick a topic and
color that on blank paper.

Debbie for kids under 3 giving paper with lines can sometimes frustrate them
according to experts.... I do it any way,.... the kids color where ever they
like eventually learning to color IN the lines... How ever they create is
fine it's not the not the final outcome of a project or picture thats
inportant because what ever a child makes will be beautiful!

"They" sometimes make things too complicated!!!!!!! Kids don't think about
the lines the think cool mickey mouse! let me make his arms purple!
