Perhaps to get attention we need to take the same route as another
victimized group of Americans. We however have a better chance as we have
been victimized by the government in recent times and not over a hundred
years ago. It is therefore about time the government start paying
non-custodial parents reparations for the damage they have done to our
lives, the lives of our children and our families.

I want my money!

LOL, you're a MAN! You aren't supposed to get free money; only women are.
Just what makes you think you have the right to free $$$? Shut up, be a
responsible REAL man, and PAY your "child support". How dare you take food
out of the mouths of innocent babies!!!

Good example, Chris. That's exactly how they try to win all their arguments.
No matter what you say about disagreeing with any part of the the system
being unfair, your last two sentences is always the response. This is why
the fathers groups never get anywhere as that is all most of the ignorant
uninformed sheep in this country want to hear.

I agree, and have been considering writing an article presenting that
point of view for a couple of weeks now. In all seriousness, it's a
credible cause.

BTW: The amount the system overcharged for child support since the
beginning of the use of presumptively correct child support guidelines
is somewhere in the neighborhood of one hundred billion dollars.
(approx ten billion a year for ten years). Then, I'd think it
appropriate to ask for an additional amount related to the damage
caused to the lives of fathers and their children as well as punitive
damages. Now you just need to figure out who can pay that much. Aside
from government corruption, a bunch of private interests shared
profits from skimming child support payments (private collection
agencies) and in higher legal costs for example. Private interests
have also shared as much as forty billion in federal government
expenditure related to child support.

A Return To Welfare As We Knew It?
The Beginning Of The End Of Child Support Reform
http://toogoodreports.com/column/reader/gay/20020321.htm

"Despite a federal requirement for states to review their guidelines
to assure that their use results in a just and appropriate award in
every case, no state has ever validated the logic of their guidelines.
According to child support collection entrepreneur Robert Williams who
is the primary designer of most state guidelines, the objective was to
increase the average amount of an award by two and a half times. It is
this practice in particular, arbitrarily increasing awards by using a
presumptively correct formula that the Georgia court found
unconstitutional.

......

The overpayment resulting from the use of guidelines has become known
as hidden alimony.

On the other side of the issue is a strange coalition of special
interest groups that profit from the current system. These include
state enforcement agencies, private collection businesses, and women愀
groups that have sought higher financial benefits for divorce.
Billions of dollars in federal funding have driven the system,
creating a vast network of political friends."

I enjoy your articles immensely, and would LOVE for you to write this. I'd
definitely send it to all my local newspapers. A good time would be after
the Georgia decision appeal (hopefully) fails to result in reversal ... you
could do an article on that, with the "reparations" as a follow up. A good
(and rightful) tack would be that, as mentioned in another reply, the
victimization is contemporary, and the perpetrators are still a
perpetratin'. Hold the accountable accountable. Also, note that the
reparations would be in the interest of CHILDREN as well as their fathers.

How long do you think the Georgia appeal process will take?

Perhaps the African American reparations movement is barking up the wrong
tree. The victimation of NCPs is occuring today and effects men of all
races, colors, etc. If the African American reparations movement would
focus on this issue instead of what happened more than 140 years ago they
could bring support from all races to a universal cause. The end result may
not be reparations but at least raising this issue may reverse the
oppression of NCPs of groups.

And then the children of divorced parents should file suit for
reparations from the NCP, CP, and the government because they would
have a better life if the parents stayed together, at least money
wise.
