Hi there,

For the first time, I tried today to connect to my router through the
console connection using win95 hyperterminal, but I could not
find
any response from the router, there was nothing on the terminal window. I
tried this with tow routers. Would someone please give me detiled
directions regarding the
configuration of the connection ( i.e emulation type, flow controll, stop
bits and so on ).

I am sure that serial port to which I connected the console cable was
enabled.

So you have the console cable running from COMx to the console port on the
router. COMx is working OK?? I check with a serial mouse, but first check
the settings. Should have 9600 baud, 1 stop bit, 8 data bits, no parity.
All I've had to do is when setting up HyperTerminal is change the baud rate
from 2400 to 9600 and the other default settings were already correct. Flow
control is hardware I believe.

HTH,
Ron.

Use terra term, I had the same problem on a cisco 2500 with hyper term.
it seems like there is no connection
and when there is the signals don't come through , so i changed to terra
term.

The Cisco console port does not support flow control and the lines
commonly used for hardware flow control (RTS & CTS) are left floating. How
the floating lines are interpreted by the hardware on the PC will depend
upon the PC hardware. You must disable flow control (both hardware and
software if possible, but at least hardware) on the PC to avoid the
potential for confusion.

yes, a digital service line will fry it.
