I'm curious about this as well. We are attempting to revamp our curriculum
to reflect the impending changes in the A+ Certification test. Of course,
we would like to use Mike Meyers book. We are currently using Mike Meyers
book, "A+ Certification All-In-One Exam Guide". We desperately need to see
a list of the proposed exam objectives in order to modify our curriculum.
Any suggestions?

Give it a day or two, and if Mike, or Scott, hasn't replied, or you
haven't had any better information, try this post again. These guys do
hang around here, and they are #1, in my estimation, for doing that.
Don't forget to check the source...

DAMN! I wish I could get some concrete info on the A+ objectives also!
CompTIA is being AMAZINGLY tight-lipped about this - even my close
(read:"bribeable") connections at CompTIA won't give me even the smallest
clue! If you think your life is hell, try writing a new book on what you
THINK might be on the new exam!
A couple opf things you can count on from me-
ANY SCHOOL OR PERSON USING MY MATERIALS WILL GET SOME FORM OF FREE UPDATES
FOR AT LEAST 60 DAYS AFTER THE NEW TEST COMES OUT.
I AM FEVERISHLY WRITING THE A+ 3RD EDITION BASED ON MY OPINION OF THE NEW
OBJECTIVES. I AM CONFIDENT I WILL BE 70% CORRECT/COMPLETE WHEN THE NEW
OBJECTS SHOW UP IN TH?E NEXT FEW WEEKS.
YES NANCY, YOU CAN LOOK AT THE NEW CHAPTERS BEFORE THEY GO TO MCGRAW-HILL!
(But you have to come to the office and sign an NDA!)
Any SCHOOL using my book will get the new text in some form - probably the
new chapters in electronic format - as soon as we have 90% confidence about
their correctness (around beta time). I anticipate my new book will come out
just a few weeks after the new test goes live. Individuals who get caught in
the cross-over will be dealt with as they holler - "the squeaky wheel get
the grease" - and this newsgroup will be closely watched.
Mike's guess on the new exam-
Complete dump of any realmode memory management - excluding
-HIMEM.SYS
-Real mode drivers and why they still exist
Complete dump of Windows 3.X
- I will keep it in my book just for histroical reference
Complete dump of DOS
-I will keep most of my DOS stuff- DIR still works just fine in Windows
2000!
-I will dump most of my CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT stuff
NT and 2000
-I don't think that anything in Windows 2000 that isn't in NT will be added
-except maybe directory concept
-and details on how NT vs. 2000 handles hardware - tough call on this one
LINUX
-I havent a clue. I'm hoping for them to ignore X-anything and instead
concentrate on standard user commands (ls, pwd) and the concept of
users/groups and standard directory formats.
This is my guess, this is only a guess. Any resemblence between this guess
and what CompTIA actually does is total freakin' luck!

Hello, Mike-
Misery loves company...we teach digital electronics for eight weeks
prior to the A+ module. We then teach N+ following the A+ module
using again your text. Our goal is to make people employable. A lot
of our graduates begin their careers working for the local cable
company. Currently, the starting salary for them is in the range of
ten to fourteen dollars per hour. The vast majority of our students
have previous experience with computers, people who might be labeled
as 'computer geeks'. But not all of them. Therefore, we teach as
though everyone in our program has never seen a computer prior to
their enrolment with us.
A curriculum that provides real value to the students that enroll or
to the tax payers who in some instances pay for the students
enrollment is vital. We live or die on the sward of relevance. Our
curriculum must be relevant to the real world. With the foregoing in
mind, you can understand why we fully support the proposed changes in
the A+ certification test.
Ramping up for CompTIAs' new test requires a significant lead time
for us. We need to see a list of objectives ASAP. Knowing that you
are struggling with this issue provides some comfort. My personal
opinion is that Linux will not be an issue in the new test. But that
is my opinion, and if I had a dollar for every time my opinion was
wrong, well....
At any rate, you can be assured that if you are the author of the
third edition of A+, we will use it as our text. You have done a
wonderful job with this text, and speaking on behalf of our
students, we all thank you.
Sincerely,
David
