GPRS is up and running on Singlepoint Vodafone, saw it in action today at P4U
next door to my shop.

P4U is sister company to Singlepoint - they definitely do not connect through
other SPs. Not only did I see it go, they also had Vodafone Live! POS
plastered all over their window. They wouldn't be that stupid as to advertise
a service which hasn't launched.
i emailed them about GPRS a couple of days ago and was also told it
will be launched in january
Did they not advertise the 7210 about six months before launch?

Vodafone Live! was launched at the start of the month, nobody is denying
that! What is being said is that GPRS won't be available until January. GPRS
is just a faster way of connecting , you can connect to Vodafone Live! via
dial up connection.
Futher you can by a phone from Phones4U and connect through a differnt
service provider, like I said before they just tend to steer you towards
Singlepoint.

When I called in to arrange the transfer, I was told by an account
manager that they'd like to keep me as a customer and if I took my PAC
code to one of their shops then they could put me on a GPRS tarriff
with a new 12-month contract. I asked why I had to get a new contract
and he said that they have to put the account onto a new billing
platform.
I don't know why they can't just migrate existing customers onto their
new database now as they would have kept my business (it's much easier
just to call Vodafone to set up an account then it is to visit one of
their shops).

For the purpose of taking pre-orders. And it wasn't *quite* 6 month now was
it? :)
OK, what I was meaning was that they are dishing out free MMS for 3 months.
If GPRS was not working then MMS would not be either? Unless I am much
mistaken MMS relies on GPRS as the bearer.
That sort of makes sense. When I left the WAP Store they were just then
introducing a new billing platform, the name of which I forget. It is
conceiveable that this was to allow them to implement GPRS.
On the other hand the phrase "connect you to a different billing platform"
could mean a different Service Provider. Woth P4U it's anyones guess!
All I know is that if you have a singlepoint person buried up to their neck
in sand you do not have enough sand.
I'm a O2/SinglePoint customer.

>IP-based mobile data networks, such as those of AT&T Wireless Services Inc., should be protected against probes from the Internet. AT&T has taken steps to protect wireless data users from probes "by not assigning static and exposed IP addresses to users." Additionally, AT&T Wireless installed firewalls to stop such traffic before it reaches users. Users should also have a firewall on their machine, in the event that the probes are not blocked. In one case, an upgrade to T-Mobile USA Inc.'s General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) mobile data network resulted in a glitch that exposed a handful of users to probes from the Internet.
Maybe this article I got from Dartmouth College's ISTS group has
something to do with it......??
