The advantage of Page Plus is that they have smaller, lower cost, plans
for those that don't need unlimited data, and they allow voice and text
roaming onto other CDMA networks. But for heavy data users that never
leave urban areas, it's a good deal. Much better coverage than Virgin or
Boost.

As with Page Plus, Straight Talk doesn't officially allow LTE capable
phones.

It does for me. I don't mind just getting 3G service but I'd like to
be able to use a current , better, smartphone.

And there appears to be a limit on the plan that the phone you bring.
The articel says "Any phone can be eligible provided it has not been
activated outside of the Verizon network." So you can't bring the
phone you've been using on Page Plus and switch.

Another consideration is no roaming off the Verizon prepaid network.
Page Plus charges for it but at least it's there.

It's a PITA, but OTOH people have managed to activate quite a few
different LTE phones on Page Plus, and of course the Straight Talk
iPhone 5 can also be used on Page Plus (it's an iPhone 5 with LTE disabled).

I don't think that's what they mean. I think that they mean phones that
have been off of Verizon's network, like phones that have been flashed
to Metro PCS.

Yep, that effectively eliminates Straight Talk for me.

The posted article is almost 2 months old. If you're really interested
you may want to check the website. Things change...

Yes an LTE phone can be made to work on PagePlus but it's not that
easy. You'd better really know what you are doing, and also have a way
back if LTE should ever show on PagePlus.

We won't know until someone tries, I guess.

Straight Talk does have some roaming with their AT&T and T-Mobile
plans and it's no charge.

My method is to use a GSM prepaid most of the time. I have an old
Verizon phone that I use if I might need roaming, at $30 a year on
PagePlus.

We won't know what they mean until it happens and someone tries it.
Assuming that Verizon is precise in what they are saying could be a
mistake.

some of these MVNOs don't seem to consider updated information on their
website a priority

yeah, so that limits the number of people that do it. Most people
aren't going to know how to, or want to, rejigger their phone and hope
it keeps working.
