611 and *611 should reach CS
#646 (#MIN) to check minute usage
#225 (#BAL) to check payments/balance
*228 to program phone or update PRL (check other posts in this NG for an
explanation of what that is)
I once got a message on an unactivated phone saying I could call *711 to
open a temporary account, but that worked neither with that phone nor
with another activated one, so go figure.

There might be other non-obvious ones I'm missing here.

1. what happens when you press #1?

2. some time ago there was a discussion as to whether you should press #228,
2 every time you were in a new location. knowing which would be a help to
travelers.

PRL = Prefered Roaming List

It's like an index of different System IDs that Verizon programmed
in for the phone to connect to with certain priorities on
certain SIDs over others. It also is what drives the roaming
indicator on the phone to indicate whether Verizon has a roaming
agreement with the carrier you're roaming with or not.
Google "prl 50057" and you'll be able to see one and then it will
make sense.

Obviously you don't know how to count

1. if you press #1 it will program your phone number, home SID, NID and
other basic programming info including PRL version for your price plan

2. #228 will not work. it's *228. However. it should never be done when you
are outside of your real "home" area. (example: if you are from chicago,
even if you have SR national price plan, you still should not do *228 while
you are in NYC or LA,)

3 (or maybe 2 again?) everytime you are roaming in different location. you
may try *18 to ensure follow me roaming is activated.

Option 1 usually means to program your phone number, home system id, and
such into your phone, and then load the PRL. This is usually a one-time
thing when you get a new phone. It used to be that all of the info had
to be manually entered, in a model-dependent procedure. Now the CSR just
enters the ESN into their system, and then does *228,option 1 on the phone.

Option 2 just loads the current (for better or for worse) PRL.

On your next point, sounds like *28, which was used to get your phone
registered in the location where you were roaming. Except for a few
oddball cases, usually involving "mom-and-pop" local cellular companies,
this is no longer needed, since the registration happens automatically
when your phone acquires the new system. In fact, if you are roaming
in CDMA digital mode, this registration HAS to happen, since the link
from the phone to the tower is encoded with the ESN (serial number)
of your phone, which is never transmitted over the air. The system
you are roaming on has to get this info from your home system.

James,
Please be careful about your recommendation. You imply that "travelers"
should press #228, "every time you were in a new location..." That has
been a recipe for disaster!

If you upgrade outside of your home market, the system may not recognize
you, and will probably load a generic PRL, probably one that shows the
roaming indicator everywhere outside your home market. This effectively
disables your ability to determine your roaming situation, a critical factor
with the America's Choice plan, until you get home.

Don't upgrade unless you are fairly certain of the results!

Michelle, At times you can be very negative yourself! when james posted
about the *228 he may have not entered send or maybe put # instead of *,
but we knew what he was talking about. I think people need to stop
finding the little things that are wrong with a post and focus on the
positive. That will stop a lot of conflict!!

you make all going points.

i was simply reacting to something i saw as really ugly ... miclelle's flame
of a legitimate request for information because it contained a typo.

this newsgroup's purpose is to exchange information. if people like michell
can intimidate lurkers who are considering posting and make them afraid to
ask a question becauwse of the way they see others' questions being bashed
about, then it makes the newsgroup a less good place to be.

i think when someone behaves as michelle did, it's not so bad a thing for
people to speak up and say something.

but you still make a good point. :-)

too bad you didn't just correct the typo rather than attack the typist.

as i said, "perhaps your life is so ugly and hopeless that you have some

now run along until you develop the character to apologize to all the

Agreed. It does one thing which I think is bad for the group. Now I may
miss out on good information because I will no longer read or respond to
what either of them post, and maybe others here will do the same. I'm
here for information, not to listen to two supposed adults calling each
other names and arguing over a # sign. I think they both have done a
great job demonstrating to the group exactly what kind of people they
are.
Maybe they are one user posting under two names!

*18 is follow me roaming

whenever you are roaming to other system...that system report your presence
to your home switch
so if people call you. it can be routed to the roaming system you are
roaming with

it doesn't always work (it's not a prefect world) so to ensure incoming
calls. always dail *18 when you roam in a new area, city or town. This will
allow your phone say "hello" to the switch that "hey, i am roaming over
here! any incoming calls, please route it over here!"

oh! that was a typo? sorry, I thought you just don't know how to count!

No, I don't have hatred against anyone here. no need to.... in fact....if
someone cut me off at 90 mph, I'll just report to 911.
In fact...I have never honk at someone! (I did get middle finger one time
when I pick up my cell phone because this guy with single occupancy cutting
me off on a car pool lane going 80 mph. I thought it was fun because he
thought I am calling the cop)

see? I don't hate anyone, no need to. However. I like to make fun of people
when they call me jerk. :-P

no, it is a clear statement of fact.

i asked a question of the newsgroup.

you creatively edited your reply and flamed my question for a typo. others
have pointed that out to you.

all you needed to to was say "sorry" or even leave the discussion go.

instead you have protested, lied, defended without reason and started yet
another flame war.

the last you did this, i let you off the hook after a few exchanges when you
were blatantly lying. this time, i will not do that. obviously you are not
emotionally equipped to apologize for either your flame or for your
subsequent lies so i will not demand that of you. i will, however, respond
to each post where you continue to lie and to each future post where you
lie.

Justa Lurker is NOT Michelle.
Justa is a regular here. Very knowlegeable and helpful.
Do a google or open the headers for justa and you'll see
that Justa Lurker and Michelle are two different people.

As to the ongoing flame war betweeen you and Michelle, take it private.

that is clearly a good think for justa, assuming you are correct.

no.

when someone attacks another person's information request, then more than a
few people should be critical of that attack.

i have no interest in flaming michelle. but i do have an interst in being
critical of some of her more despicable actions and subsequent lies about
them. given the number of supportive email messages i have received from
lurkers, i am comfortable that i did the right thing in this case. i'm sorry
it bothers you.

Check the headers.
Justa has no need to pose as someone else. At least none that I know of.
Justa is a trusted person in the group.

As someone who has been posting here for a quite a while, I see this all the
time.
Others are seeing it diferently, including me.

There is no reason to assume. Gandalf has the required

Your loss. People who act respectable are respected.
Let it go, James. You will never be 'right' as long
as you follow this childish approach.

Entertaining of sorts: but one more post from either of you, and your both
in the kill file. No matter how good your thoughts and ideas, I find it now
unwelcome. Sadly I might miss a good idea from either one of you, but that
is the price I am willing to pay to not see your jousting in public and on
