Does she mean that I would not be able to activate it if VZW no longer sold
this phone?
Or, does the rep mean that, if the phone was so old that VZW no longer
supported it, then I would not be able to activate it?
The 9155 is a tri-mode CDMA phone. My current, active phone is the same
model.
Thanks!
Marc
Phone does not have to be currently offered to be activated. I activate
phones all the time that have not been sold in some cases for more than a
year.

A Verizon COMPANY store activated my Alltel Nokia 6185 for me, and
Verizon has never directly sold the 6185. A couple of their agents
did. They never have.

Do you think VZW would activate a US Cellular 6385?

VZW isn't *nearly* as picky as SPCS and others; VZW generally will
activate *any* tri-mode CDMA phone (except for those locked to SPCS or
other carriers.) I've activated a Samsung T300 on my account well
after VZW quit selling it, and activated a Mot 270c -- and even got
its firmware upgraded -- despite the fact that VZW company stores
never sold the 270c here in Atlanta (they did in other markets.)

I know VZW wouldn't have firmware for it, which might be an issue. I
do know it's a tri-mode, 1x-capable CDMA phone, which means it's quite
possible that they'll do it. But they had VZW-specific firmware for
the 6185 that I transferred, or at least I believe they did. I don't
know. You'd probably be better off asking VZW in this case; go to one
of the stores with a service center. I can't claim to know enough
about Verizon's policies to be able to answer this for you. :>
